How The Lord's Prayer Can Change You

In his message from TGC Chicago's 2022 Regional Conference, Colin Smith teaches us how to pray the Lord’s prayer through five specific categories, drawing from Luke 11 when Jesus’s disciples actually requested that Jesus teach them to pray, not how to pray. 
Smith highlights five things on which to focus while praying:

1. God’s name should be honored in prayer. We ought to pray that God would raise up people who know him in the midst of a world that despises him.
2. As we pray that God’s kingdom comes, we should ask that our lives be more fully submitted to Christ and that Jesus would defeat his enemies on earth.
3. Pray for others whose needs are greater than our own—this stirs up Christlike compassion in our hearts as we fully depend on God at every step of his provision.
4. Pray for forgiveness, not because we haven’t already been forgiven, but to restore fellowship with God. As Christians, we should want to walk as closely as possible with God.
5. Pray to be watchful and prayerful so as to not be overwhelmed by temptation. 
As we more fully know the love of the Father, we will desire to earnestly seek him in prayer.

Greetings to you Colin all the way from Ireland from a woman, now in her 85th year and gloriously saved by the very great grace of God out of Roman Catholicism thank God, quickly followed by my late husband and my daughter with whom I now live. As you probably know RCC teaches their sadly misguided and deceived members, to say the Lord's Prayer, rote fashion and also in the Rosary, only once for every Hail Mary. Please lift these dear people us in prayer for their salvation, and may He very greatly bless you for that wonderful and very much needed teaching on the Lord's Prayer and please know that I will be sharing it with many others please God, the vast number of them Roman Catholics, very sadly as yet unsaved.

We must never miss praying daily "Our Father" because Christ Jesus Himself composed it-and if you would analyze it very carefully-it is "everything."

Remember that God is your Father (that loves you)
~ God's name will be honored
~God's kingdom will come
~God will provide what we need
~God will forgive our sins
~God will deliver us from temptation

Let your heart be stirred and guided by what the Lord tells us to ask.

All we could ask or need come under these 5 things. Use it as a template for prayer. When you pray think of which heading your prayer belongs.
Martin Luther wrote book "A Simple Way To Pray"

God's name: Heaven frames the Lord's name as hallowed. The Angels never cease to say Holy Holy Holy is the Lord God Almighty. Never ceasing worship. God's name is always honored. (On earth God's name is blasphemed Isaiah 52:5)

Now therefore, what have I here, saith the Lord, that my people is taken away for nought? they that rule over them make them to howl, saith the Lord; and my name continually every day is blasphemed. Isiah 52:5

The answer to a world that despises God's name is a people who know His name. Here is the sting in the tail.

For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written. 24 For, as it is written,
"The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you." Rom 2:24

If we bear his name and do not live for His glory. Instead of being the answer we are the cause of people stumbling.
Lord as one who bears your name never let me bring dishonor to Your name.

God's Kingdom

Jesus says to Nicodemus, who would have considered himself to be living under the rule of God
"Truly, truly, unless a man is born again you will not see the Kingdom of God."

Jesus responded and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless someone is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3

When we come to Jesus and enthrone Him as master of our lives, you are in the kingdom and the kingdom is in you.

God's kingdom is not a place, but a relationship. It exists where ever a man enthrone Jesus as the master of their lives.

I don't believe that when you pray for someone, especially if they are ill or facing a great challenge, that you should delve into what 'temptations' they may face. We cannot presume to know what will tempt another person. If we ask for the Lord to give them strength, He will know how to strengthen the person we're praying for. He is all knowing. We are not God.
