I actually think the original Percy Jackson series is slightly better than this on, of course the original doesn’t try to tackle as much as HOO did. I did like the plot of HOO, and I liked a lot of parts, like when Annabeth and Percy were in Tartarus and Nico being revealed to have a crush on Percy but I do have some problems with it. First of all characters in the original series didn’t really feel like themselves, mostly Percy which had so much development in the original series that adding even more development made some of his actions in HOO kind of out of character( for example him wanting to be leader even though he never really wanted that in the original book and has been in quests where he’s not the leader and he’s been fine with it). Another thing that bothers me is that because there’s so many more main characters than in PJO it doesn’t feel they have a strong bond like Annabeth Grover and Percy have. Another thing is that I found the end to be kind of underwhelming. The PJO final battle and final book as a whole felt way more intense and exciting than the HOO’s in my opinion. This next one may seem weird but I kind of hoped someone died in the end, when Selina died in PJO it made everything more real and suspenseful. Another thing I didn’t like is Leo just leaving his friends thinking he was dead, like who does that!?!(I still love Leo tho)
