My tip would be just to walk into the bookshop and pick a book, just like you picked children's book! Just lift one up, see if you like the colour and read the back. It helps a lot, and don't be afraid choosing by the cover sometimes! The books on recommendation by the bookshop are most of the time won't disappoint you (like the ones on the table in Waterstones)!
