Novation // Impulse: MIDI Controller Keyboard Hot Mix

This MIDI controller has a full control surface and comes with Automap software plus a few other freebies. The Impulse is available as 25, 49 and 61 key keyboards.

Here, the performance is by artist SOULH∆CK, putting the Novation Impulse controller keyboard through it's paces. The movie was shot in East London and is a Dub-influenced Big Beat routine with Ableton Live in the background.

The software being used is Ableton Live. You will find the Lite version of Live on the Xcite pack disk that was bundled with your Impulse.

That is hell of a sick demonstration and song. This is pure mastering of ableton, midi keyboards. I use the impulse in a rock band with ableton(which is one of the best optimized program for this kind of stuff.I tried before with mainstage, but it has such a cpu problems, and all sorts of some random poping lags etc.(i have macbook 2012(quad i5), but upgraded RAM etc.) My friend used mainstage on nowaday new mac, still had same problems) . But with this technology i am glad, that we could move on new lvl of sound, that isnt not just a guitar, bass, and a pack of strings and pianos and one some simple leads, that are already integrated in keyboard and doesnt offer alot of options, so i just use it for strings and piano(because quality of piano is not so good for live performance(Kontakt piano ate my RAM like nothing :D(if you have like 50 sounds open) ) etc. :D So yeah its a splendid thing, fast assinable and it goes so smoothly with daws. I had only one problem with, and that was that couple of times my pitch whell stuck at the bottom, but maybe i pitch too hard :D(who knows, because i press maybe too hard, without filling, but atleast it could be more polished edge at the end of the pitch whell so it doesnt stuck with the frame that it dives into). But overall i think that if you are a keyboard player in a band, that is the definetly one of the best purchase to be made. Price of standard keyboard, that has quality sounds and it is accaptable for live performance costs around 1000 eu- 3000 eu. Mac can be proper for 1000 eu(2012 model, ssd disk, full ram etc, plus your soundcard is in that price included too), a really good one for this kind of work, and that keyboard is like around 290 eu. So for 1300eu you get unimaginative power and i personally think, from my expirince, that you should definitily go for it. It will be your best purchase in your life, if you want to be creative with electronic sounds. Period. And NOVATION, i think that you should market this kind for products on rock music too, not just for electronics and show its usefulness in a bands ;) Just a point that i think you are missing in your advertising campaign. :)

Pay attention at the start, the VERY FIRST button he presses is record. So it's safe to assume the last fader select button he hits is mapped to playback. Or the last thing we heard was just a sample he played to fade out.

Hi think2x, the interface is a 2i2.

In this case it was used for monitoring and to demonstrate a real-world setup.

Sorry to hear you feel this way. Garage Band does not allow in depth MIDI control, so you are basically limited to just playing the instruments. If you watch other videos with the Impulse on our channel, you will see how much control it offers in other DAW platforms.

Also, we are sorry that you have had a hard time getting in contact with us via phone. We are looking into why that happened in order to prevent it from happening again.

Well, I don't really know your problem, but you can assign the Impulse's controls in FL Studio by clicking the right mouse button on a knob/slider/button and you get an option that says "assign to controller". Then you can just move the encoder or slider, or press the button of Impulse, and the controller gets assigned.

@LordAndrey1 The Impulse is fully compatible with Logic. If you are experiencing problems controlling the Logic mixer then please contact technical support via the contact form on the Novation Answerbase. We will also be able to help you to assign the drum pads to Battery or Ultrabeat.

Novation never fails at making you think... if you buy it... you can automaticly mix like this...
But well this is how everyone should promote their stuffs... Others should learn to do the same...

You can use the Impulse with Fl Studio as a standard MIDI device. You can also control Automap enabled third party plug-ins within Fl Studio. The only aspect which isn't supported is Automap control of the mixer and transport. Therefore it is not possible to use the faders or encoders in 'Mixer' mode. @kimseniorb Maybe the climbing pitch effect is just a Simpler or something. It could also be just a clip effect. I'll bet he just mapped one of the knobs to the sample transpose (notice that he turns it every time we get that effect) and Voila! There's people wondering about how he did it.
