I also call BS on the lack of CASt for performance purposes. the game it's self is a lot smaller, isn't open world, looks worse and is better optimized than the sims 3, and the sims 3 handled CASt well enough. I bet they'll say that the sims teleport everywhere instead of travel by car is for "performance" as well.

Woah woah woah. No open world? What the hell? One of the biggest reasons why I loved the Sims 3 and they take it away? I'm really skeptical on how this is going to turn out now.

So far, I have yet to be convinced to upgrade to this game. I completely agree when it comes to removing some of the customization options not being necessary. I like having the ability to customize colors and patterns within the game. Loading screens are also annoying. I love the open world concept of Sims 3, and all of it's additional features. I don't think it makes sense to remove those things.

If there was a review I was waiting for, it was definitely yours. You have a tendency not to sugarcoat things (especially with the Sims) and are completely honest with your reviews. It's nice to hear a different perspective on Sims 4, considering the information that's out right now.

I don't see why they had to "replace" the pool, CASt and toddlers with walk style and emotion... those things doesn't really overlap, just more animation to do. I'm very disappointed in the open/closed world, I'm tired of loading screens! sure the CAS is fun and stuff but so many more elements been replaced by... well, walk style and emotions? otherwise the game is exactly the same as TS3 but more of a downgrade.

They removed the best feature that Sims 3 had? Seriously? No open world? Wasn't that the selling point of Sims 3? Damn you, EA! You show us some real progress and change for the better, then pull it away from us like a douchey older brother? Do you want us to buy your games or not?

On a more positive note: CAS looks good, though Create A Style will be sorely missed.

Yeah I know, I'm quite late, and maybe someone already reacted to this.

I'm also sad that this feature was removed, but it wasn't a 'simple palette' change. In The Sims 3, you could apply any texture with any material and any color combination to clothes and furniture. I mean, you could have a shirt made of wood.

So, when the game loads a sim, it needs to load the sim, its facial parameters, and then the clothes : the model, the material used, the textures, and the colors. Then, on each frame rendered, it had to load the texture light and color it properly.

Yeah, for one character, it works, but for all the models, plus real-time loading ? It must have been an absolute nightmare to make, and I honestly am still impressed with The Sims 3 in that regard.

A great example of a tool used to make those "new-gen textures" is Substance Painter

Now with the sims 4, The material is simply made of textures instead of "textures + colors + parameters". Sure, it's limitating, but it's a lot smoother, and as you state, you can still mod the game anyways.

I'm on the fence about buying Sims 4. There are positives like create a sim and build buy and emotions but there are negatives like no open world and no create a style and the lack of normal careers (why in the world would they remove the medical and law enforcement careers?)

I'm definitely interested in messing around in the CAS demo, I think it'll be fun. But I'm still not planning on purchasing TS4 anytime soon. :/ As I've said elsewhere, maybe down the road when toddlers and pools have been added and a nice flow of stable mods are coming in, and the price is at a sane level.
Oh, and did you hear there are also no ghosts in the game, either? (as of yet.)


Edit: I take it back. Messing around with the CAS demo wasn't that fun. :/ Created a couple sims and a self sim (on the gallery now) and got bored. CAS isn't fun w/o the full game afterwards, haha.

LGR, you rock sir! I've really been on the fence with whether or not to pre order the sims 4 but now knowing there are going to be loading screens and the lacking create a sim, I'm leaning towards passing on this one. At least when it comes to the pre order. I'll wait until I see your review once it's out to fully make up my mind! Your videos are so helpful when deciding on whether or not to order sims games! Thank you!
