The Curious Case of the YouTube Comment Dislike Button

The YouTube comment dislike button wasn't always this way. It was messed up! Really badly! By Google Plus!

YouTube comments can be rated with a like or dislike. But the two buttons do not exhibit the same behavior.

The comment like button basically works just like the video like button - you click on it, it gets highlighted, and its counter increases by a value of one.

However when you click the dislike button, it gets highlighted, and that's pretty much it! From a user perspective, it practically does nothing!

In this video we explore the most probable reason why this is so.

The comment dislike button doing nothing has never stopped being such an annoying change that I wished would be fixed, but instaed we now live when YouTube has removed dislikes even on videos simply to save face. Man, it'd be a shame if someone put a REALLY hurtful comment or video, and all you'll see are the people that like it

We just type dislike then so everyone can see it. Or everyone like one post that says "dislike" or "thumbs down"

And you can dislike a comment but if you check it later, the dislike is gone. In all my years on youtube I have never yet seen a comment dislike button highlighted (except when I click it myself). And omg was G+ a total stuff-up or what!
