In association with SiS.
Matt and Dan caught up with Team Sky to find out how they fuel for optimum performance and recovery.

Pro cycling teams have large behind-the-scenes setups, and often travel with chefs, nutritionists, and even their own kitchen trucks. This approach is designed to help the riders to fuel as well as possible, which helps them to perform, recover and avoid illness.

I'm gonna go eat a big juicy half pound steak for every vegan comment I see here.

I eat meat and want to become a good cyclist. It looks like all pro cyclists eat meat, but the people commenting on this video (half of which have probably never stepped on a bike) say that veganism is the only way to be a good cyclist! Of course these YouTube commentators know more than pro tour team nutritionalists so I will now become a vegan thanks to their useful "go vegan" comments!

Please elaborate on said "timing" :D this is big for me. I use my commutes to train and sometimes "timing" is difficult.

For the maximal performance gain all pro teams are on a "blood type diet", thanks to Dr. Fuentes & Dr. Ferrari.

Freedom of choice eat what ever works you and enjoy the ride. I give GCN credit for these videos because every time they do it someone wants to hijacked the narrative. You're entitled to your opinion but please don't force believe on the rest of us.

Did Matt ever mess up the end board lines on purpose just to get to eat more dessert?

I'm vegetarian, and I find a filling bowl of porridge with fruit to be a great pre ride meal and a peanut butter and banana sandwich with wholemeal seeded bread a great post ride meal.

Before long run I eat 500g boiled chicken + 500g pasta/rice + 250g salad. And Im ready to cycle for 5 hours like a beast.

Gotta love all these vegans saying "CTFU", "High Carb is the way to go", "go vegan", but where are the vegans athletes in the pro peloton, you would think that if this vegan thing was as effective as they proselytize, that pro teams would be all over that.

You guys do so many great videos that I feel bad complaining LOL but we didn't learning much here in this one! As I think it was Team Sky that did a period of low carb diet in the offseason to "prime" the guys for insulin/leptin and all that good stuff when they went high carb again during competition, THAT would be have been real interesting. And isn't it Team Sky that flies in their own meat as well?

I was also surprised by the pasta. I'm not really gluten intolerant but I perform way better without wheat products - there are rice pastas BTW. Same for dairy - he mentions yogourt.

An Ulsterman on Team Sky, that has made my day!

From what I heard, during the Tour de France most of Team Sky riders were on a ketogenic diet and supplementing with exogenous ketones. Fat-adapted athletes perform better in endurance events than do carb-adapted.

Team Sky dietitians, doctors and coaches put world-class athletes on world-stage podiums. Harley Jonstone does not.
