A Quran Contradiction That Muslims Can’t Avoid

Quran 10:94 tells Muhammad to ask the People of the Scripture if he has doubts. But if the Bible was corrupted, why would Allah tell him that? This contradiction exposes a major flaw in Islam.

"But 10.94 is about the Exodus!"

Let's head this off now. The claim that Quran 10:94 is only about the Exodus is pure cope. The verse says, "If you are in doubt about what We have revealed to you, ask those who read the Scripture before you, " but never limits this to the Exodus. If Allah only meant that one event, why didn’t he say so? Instead, the command is broad and unqualified—Muhammad is told to consult the People of the Book about "what was revealed, " which includes all past revelations, not just one story. Plus, Surah 10 doesn’t just talk about the Exodus—it also covers many other prophets and revelations. If 10:94 only applied to one event, then Muslims are stuck arguing that the Quran randomly threw in a meaningless command for Muhammad to ask the People of the Book about one historical detail while ignoring everything else. That makes no sense. If the Quran is “clear, ” then why would Allah give hypothetical commands that create confusion?

Second, if you're gonna say that you have to say the Torah was preserved and not corrupted and the Torah contradicts the Quran, so....same problem.

Muhammad's attitude towards Christianity changed over time, from initially friendly to extremely hostile, after being rejected as a true prophet, according to DW.

The verse urges verification of the Quran’s message with with prior scriptures which includes "original monotheistic message" shared by all prophets in both Bible and Torah, while rejecting later distortions (e.g., crucifixion, Trinity).
- Quran challenges the People of the Book to present scripture as proof (3:93, 21:7), implying shared truths still remain.
- Injil (Gospel of Jesus) ≠ New Testament: The Injil was God’s revelation to Jesus, not the four Gospels written decades later. The Quran acknowledges remnants of truth in these four but warns of distortions (2:79, 5:13).
- Jesus calls himself Son of Man 80+ times. John 20:17: “My God and your God.” Even early Christians debated his nature.
- The Bible’s accounts conflict (Mark 15:25 vs. John 19:14). Some early Christians (e.g., Basilides) believed Jesus wasn’t crucified.
- The Quran came to resolve contradictions in previous scriptures, not creating them. Read it objectively if you truly seek the real Jesus.

Some critics misunderstand Surah Yunus (10:94) by claiming it tells Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) to seek guidance from the People of the Book. However, this is a rhetorical statement meant to affirm the truth of revelation, not an actual instruction.

- The Prophet (ﷺ) had no doubts—this verse is directed at doubters, using a common Arabic style of speech to emphasize certainty.

- It highlights that past scriptures originally contained prophecies about Muhammad (ﷺ), so honest scholars from among the Jews and Christians would recognize the Quran’s truth.

- The Quran does not rely on past scriptures but corrects distortions while confirming the core message of monotheism.

When read in context, this verse aligns perfectly with the Quran’s teachings and does not contradict other verses. Critics often misinterpret it by ignoring linguistic and historical context

The plain reading of 10:94 is that the prior scriptures are the criterion over the quran, not the other way around
