How To Fix Microwave Sparking for $3 - Broken Microwave

Показать описание
Short and easy to follow video on how to fix microwave sparking. This can occur when the waveguide gets dirty overt time and needs to be replaced. Waveguides are readily available on Amazon and eBay but are specific for your model of microwave.

Be sure to search for your specific waveguide size for your specific microwave model.

It is important to routinely clean your microwave oven as well as clean the waveguide cover. Otherwise, it can get dirty and cause arching or sparking inside your microwave which can be dangerous and potentially start a fire.

This microwave sparking fix only costs about three or four dollars and prevents you from having to buy another microwave. You probably do not have a broken microwave. You just need to replace the waveguide.

My son’s built in microwave began sparking. He’s not very technologically adventurous so he called a repair service. The repair man said it was a lost cause, would cost 500 tp $700 to replace. I found your video and sent it to my son. For 5 bucks he got 5 pieces of wave guide material, one of which he trimmed with a utility knife and now his microwave is spark-free. Thanks! And no thanks to the crooked repairman who preys on the unknowing public

Thanks for this video! I couldn't figure out why the microwave suddenly started misbehaving in this way. I replaced the waveguide and seems to be good to go again. For those reading this, I got a generic waveguide because my part store didn't carry Sharp products. It's just over-sized and only cost $2.50. I traced the exisiting one it and carefully cut it out. Seems to work! Thanks!

Thanks. I used your video as a reference. My Microwave started sparking really badly. Because of your video, I looked at my wave guard and it looked like yours. Maybe even worse. I got a pack of universal ones from Amazon. I could not reference a specific one to my Emerson Microwave but I'm glad I couldn't. The universal ones are cheaper. It so happened the new ones were the exact same size as the one that came out of my Microwave. Took me one minute to install the new one and my unit works like new again. Thanks. You saved me from buying a new microwave.

My microwave made alarming noises and sparks flew, it was really unnerving. After cleaning it thoroughly, nothing changed so I was about to reluctantly give up and buy a new one when I found your video. I took this "wave guide" thing out, cleaned it and put it back and in less than 20 seconds, my microwave was fixed and working fine again and it cost me precisely nothing. Thanks JMG, fine work sir.

You should never operate a microwave without anything inside it. Without a load (something to heat up) the microwaves can actually end up bouncing around and going back to the magnatron, stressing it and reducing its lifespan. It can also cause the glass microwave turntable/plate to heat up very quickly to dangerous temperatures. If you're going to test a microwave like this, put a bowl of water in the microwave with a toothpick (or other nonmetallic object) in the water to prevent superheating. This will absorb the microwaves so they don't damage the magnatron or turntable

I was literally searching for microwaves because mine sparked on me last night. I sorted the choices by price and saw this part come up and remembered that's where the sparks were coming from. SOMETHING told me to Google my issue and then your video came up. Now I know how to fix it and don't have to buy another one right now. THANK YOU!

THANK YOU... Thank you very much sir. Thanks to my wife who said check YouTube, I found your clip and problem was solved. We have a Bloody expensive Breville combo oven Microwave and of course they don't see that part. I first Took that piece off and cleaned it but the parts that go into the body of the microwave broke so it would not stay in there. To test. I put scotch tape on it and ran it for 30 seconds & VOILA, thanks to your advice it was proven that was THE problem. Next I went to Amazon and what do you know, they had one with exact measurement down to the millimetre & even if you don't find one that fits your microwave, they have material that you can trace and cut your own size. THANK YOU VERY MUCH for taking the time to make and post this video. I have subscribed and rang the bell to get all other videos. MOST USEFUL VIDOE I have seen so far. Love it, have a fantastic day.

As a make-do before your new wave-guide comes in or if you have trouble finding one for your model, the following easy fix has worked for me twice.

Carefully remove the current guide (mine just slides up and out) so it doesn't get bent, clean it (don't soak it, wipe it), turn it upside down so the burn patch is on the bottom (it's on the top most, if not all of the time I think), and put it back in. Test it. It should (knock on wood) work fine. If it doesn't, just turn it off, unplug it and wait for a new one. No harm done.

It was well over 10 years ago when the sparking/smoking happened the first time. Today it happened again. I'd forgotten that I'd rotated it just out of curiosity (and desperation ;-), since it took a long time to find a new one way back when. Today, I came up here to see my options and this video triggered the memory. The burn was close to the top, just like the other time, so I took it out, wiped it, rotated it, (don't reverse sides) and put it back in. Works great again. Should work for a quite a while as long as the guide surface and its edges are kept free of particulates. Particles on other surfaces won't cause a spark.
