F-35 Short Takeoff & Vertical Landings - Awesome Views

F-35B pilots, Maj. Aric Liberman (05 jet) and Capt. Brian Hansell (01 jet), with Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 121 based out of Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Ariz., perform short take off and vertical landings as part of required flying field carrier landing practices (FCLP) at the stations auxiliary landing field, Wednesday, May 6, 2015. The landing field simulates the flight deck of an aircraft carrier to prepare pilots for landing and taking off at sea.

Beautiful bird, and I like the fact it doesn't need much runway to take off. I really like the vertical landings, you can put her just about anywhere you want to.

I've got to say, the F-35B STOVOL is probably the coolest out of the 3 variants, though each one has their own unique characteristics and functions.

Makes me proud to be british and how we perfected this 35 years ago. However, the harrier was shit in it's aerial capacity as a fighter. so then, the F35. What the UK can do coupled with what our friends the US can do. Wonderful engineering :)

Both F35 and F22 is shit, they can carry only 1 person. Boeing and Airbus are better, they can carry 300 people.

That door being extended on the short takeoff really scares me. It doesn't look that structurally sound. I'm sure the engineers have worked out all math for that, but it still looks scary given the amount of drag being placed on it.

By having a vertical landing ability, this will eliminate all those scary and dangerous carrier landings that you see on television and movies (like Top Gun). A pilot can just come and hover and easily land on the carrier.

We get to see these things fly daily down here at MCAS Beaufort (SC). Brits are here now learning to fly and fix them (3 year deployment w family), Italians, Australians and others are coming over the next few years. These are the training crews, they'll go home and get everyone else up to speed. The Marine pilots and their students are about as impressive as one can find.

This is a state of the art and superb plane having advanced technology and can land like an helicopter, I am really impressed by this plane.Russia has no plane like this
