He was in need of a good smackdown to his ego, and Beth gave it to him! Ironic as he and the others she beat wound up becoming her closest friends and supporters!

Something I've been noticing about "The Queen's Gambit" is the interesting use of color and lighting and particularly in regard to male characters even if they're simply extras. People in the background are often shown in drab colors in cold, white overhead lighting. I'm sure this is to keep the viewer focussed on the game rather than the people watching it. In this scene Beth is shown in indirect light/in shadow while Harry is shown in direct lighting and his skin is very pale. Even when Benny gets the news that Beth won in Russia, the guys with him are shown in the same drab colors and cold lighting as elsewhere in the series. I don't think there's anything necessarily sexist in how men are shown in "The Queen's Gambit" as there were simply so few women involved in the chess scene where Beth played and competed.

We need trash talking in actual real life chess. Would love to see Hikaru talking smack!

They're missing the drama of the clock ticking- ticking- the long periods of mystery and difficulty, the montage where nothing happens.

I'm watching and enjoying this series. I also appreciated Beth stifling a burp in this clip while Beltik is entering: this confirms the image of a polite cute girl I had of Beth.

Hollywood really needs to produce more content of extremely confident women humiliating smug men. As a matter of fact, I think they should try to make scenes involving men and women as emasculating as possible for the man. There needs to be a very strong message sent that says men are totally pathetic and worthless while women are stunning, brave, beautiful, intelligent, and can do anything and everything far better than any man.

If Hollywood would just do more of this, I think they could really boost their audience numbers….
