Preterism, invented in the 16th century by Jesuit priest Luis De Alcasar places prophecy fulfilled in the past and some even say, in the time of the prophet...which wouldn't make it a prophecy at all! it destroys the beauty and power of Bible prophecy and it does not add up well either!

In the grand prophecy of Daniel 8, we have the Medes and Persians represented as a Ram that becomes GREAT. It is next conquered by GREECE that becomes VERY GREAT. After Alexander, it predicts a fourfold division of the empire, which did happen! Then a Little Horn comes out a wrecks havoc on God's people, challenges God Himself, His Sanctuary, His Truth and it is said it becomes EXCEEDINGLY GREAT.

There is an obvious progression. Each power rules with greater power. The conquered of the Medes and Persians was the Macedonian Greeks and anyone with a basic knowkege of history can tell you the next power on the scene was the Iron monarchy of Rome that began as a pagan worldwide empire and morphed into a Christian one that even developed into the Roman Papal church that crown kings of Europe, initiated wars and held immenece power.

Antiochus Ephiphanes IV, though significant, was not even as great as His father Anriochus the Great!

Daniel's Prophecies in chapters 2, 7, 8-9, 10-12 cover the same empires that later dovetail with the events and empires of Revelation.

The best of my knowledge most preterist do not believe that Antiochus is the little horn. The little horn is defeated during the day of the fourth kingdom, which was Rome and is the same time that the Messiah would come and set up His kingdom that will never be destroyed, which was in the first century. Therefore the little horn was defeated in the first century.
