This year my music class did a secret Santa and for really quick context i am a freshman and i am 1 of 2 freshman in my music class so everyone else was a sophomore and above so not many people really knew me. Back to the story, my music teacher asked us all if we wanted to do a secret santa and a majority of the class did and participation was optional so there were some who didnt do it but we still had an even number so we continued. My teacher gave out these little secret santa slips to write our names and things like our favorite color, candy, and other interests and we all filled them out as best we could. We set the limit to $20 (it was preferred that we didnt spend above 20 since not everyone in the class had a job so not everyone would be able to get the same level gift as another) we were all drawing names and everything was going great! For my slip on the info about me i had put my fav drink as coke, my fav candy as reeses, and under other interesting i had put Squishmallows, horror and mystery books, panda stuff, and just other stuffed animals in general. Now i was not the only one in the class who liked stuffed animals in fact almost everyone got some sort of stuffed animal as a part of their gift…..except for me. Heres what happened. There is this girl in my class for privacy reasons we will call her Tracy. Tracy and I were kinda talking (ill say it not i dont really like tracy becuz she talks bad about my bff who used to go to my school but had to change due to bulling she has ADHD and Tracy talks bad about how “crazy” she was the year before and that year before her meds for her ADHD were being changed so her prescription wasn’t perfect so yeah she was a bit excitable but she is an insainly sweet and kind girl who would do anything to defend her friends and has no shame in being herself even if it makes her come off as a tad strange to people who dont really know her, but she certainly never did anything worthy of being bad mouthed) and eventually it is Tracy’s turn to grab a slip. She grabs it comes back over, reads it and says very loudly “OMG” and as a joke i ask “who did u get” not expecting her to actually answer but ig she didnt understand the secret part of secret santa (even tho she had done it the year prior) and she told me “I got u” and i had one of those slap your forehead moments and i told her she wasnt actually supposed to tell me cuz it was meant to be secret. After she tells me this she reads my likes and starts talk bad about what i put. She said i was too old to like stuffed animals even tho like i said pretty much the entirety of our music class does! She also was pretty judgmental about what i didnt like. She was making all sorts of comments to me like “you dont like candles?!?” “Last year my secret santa liked candles so i got them a bunch of candles!” And pretty much just trying to get me to agree to let her get me smt i rly dont like (i dont like candles cuz they always end up being too strong for me or the scent just smells strange). In the end there was absolutely no surprise left for me at all not even what i was getting cuz guess what, she told me that too! And she didnt even bother to put any thought into it! She had questioned me about what other kinds of books i liked and i made it VERY clear i do NOT like romance books or sci-fi books. She got me free books that our library was giving out. Its not the free part that bothered me, it was the fact that she didnt care that the books were the genres that i told her i didnt like! She got me romance and sci-fi! Sure the romance had SOME mystery but i truly despise romance books i dont like picturing that kind of stuff and she truly just showed that she did not care at all cuz if she did get me anything that i would have even remotely liked it would have had to cost more than the one dollar candles she gave someone last year, like i get it people can struggle with money but this girl could have at LEAST put a little thought into the gift especially when everyone else got such good gifts that they enjoyed and im sitting there having to pretend to be happy with these gifts that couldn’t be farther from what i like! This whole experience has made me seriously regret doing the secret santa even though i only did it to give and i didnt really care about the getting part. I just hated the fact that tracy wants to act like shes my friend and than give me this stuff just becuz she didnt have to put any effort into it and knew i would have to accept it cuz there was one other rule after no going over $20 and that was u could not show u didnt like the gift, this was the keep people from being rude and i do understand this, but it just makes me feel less important when other people are getting the stuff they enjoy and i have to find a place for these books ill never read or even slightly enjoy until i can get rid of em. There is only one good thing that came out of this technically two. 1. I learned that my music class is so much like me! (Minus Tracy ofc) they all arent scared to show what they enjoy even if it may seem childish to some and they arent afraid to be who they truly are no matter what!
2. TRACY WAS GIVEN A SQUISH-MALLOW! This means either someone was hoping she would like it OR SHE put squish-mallows/stuffed animals on HER paper too! And when i saw her take it out I immediately knew which it was (it was the hoping she would like it one) and i just KNOW she felt so defeated after seeing pretty much everyone else in the class get so excited when they were given a squish-mallow or some sort of stuffed animal and everyone else awwing them. Still sad i never got a squish mallow when everyone else did tho-

This is too relatable. So basically at my old school we did Secret Santa and everyone got given chocolates and necklaces and bracelets. I got my Secret Santa some chocolates and I was given an inflatable crown. I genuinely felt like crying because I wanted chocolates so badly that day but I was grateful

My friend when we did a secret Santa she only a got a paper from our other friend that had only her letter and a picture of them hugging each other she was actually sad bc everyone got good gifts but not her. I actually had a gift exchange at school and all the gifts are what you would expect middle schoolers to bring (as in candy and small toys). Well there was this one lid he is like the weird kid and when we looked at all the gifts we all knew which one was his it was a little gift stuffed in a walmart bag. We all assumed that it would be a thrashy gift based on gow it was wrapped and the kid who bought it. We all played and most of us kids unwrapped the presents and some stole, since no one wanted the weird kid's present it was the last one picked and everone just kept stealing presents. Until it came to a boy and he wanted to game to end and he opened the last present. Inside the weird kid's present was a bag of candy and WIRELESS EARBUDS!!!! It was one of the most unexpected things, we were amazed. The worst part is that the weird kid was all like "Yeah I bought that, I'm so rich and able to buy stuff like that".
