When we convert a fraction, like 1/4 to a percent, we’re asking “What percentage is 1 of 4 ?” To figure this take the Part (1) divided by the Whole (4) x 100.

Part/Whole x 100 = ___ %

So we divide 1 by 4 and multiply by 100 to convert 1/4 to a percent. When we do that, we find that 1/4 is 25%. That means if you take 1/4 of something you are taking 25%.

Note that the fraction 1/4 is less than one so we should have a percentage less than 100%. This is a helpful way to check your work.

--- Steps to Change 1/4 to a Percentage—

1. Divide the numerator and denominator to get a decimal.
2. Multiply the fraction to get the percent value.

Quick question, is 1/4 the same as 1.4 in a percentage when multiplying does, (1.4) = 40%
And x 2.4 = 50%🤷🏼‍♂️
