Step by step instructions on how to build a secure, weatherproof wooden motorcycle shelter on tight budget and minimal space available based on my own design and experience building it.

I investigated many options for protecting my motorcycle from thieves, weather and storms. I needed something that fit my bike exactly as I was tight on space. There isn't much available apart from material based bike covers that don't stand up to storms or motorbike thieves all that well so I decided to design and build my own motorbike shelters. I never worked with wood before and I've no experience with DIY building like this. It worked well and it protects my motorbikes very well.

Ive seen another video where the guy had a sliding rail for the front wheel. He put the front wheel into this ( like a bike courier van putting front wheel so it cant topple) and then just pushes the bike in. Thank you fir sharing your excellent idea.

@TheMotorcycleMuse
It's always a good thing to come across vids of bikers diy outside storage/protection solutions like this. Particularly as this video demonstrates, the requirements of making something compact and low profile so that it doesn't interfere with the view or aesthetics of the surroundings.
Also, always useful to receive and reply to those productive comments from others who find 'flaws' or garner solutions in the two most important aspects- Anti-Theft and Moisture control.
I'm also at the drawing stage of deciding what design profile and ease of access I need.
Great video 👌

I think I would use dome headed coach bolts rather than screws to build this excellent project, and maybe locks at top and bottom to stop thieves twisting the door open? However this is just what I need as I am stuck for space with no room for a normal size shed. Thank muchly!!!

Great job. Found this whilst looking for a temp solution for my 2 bikes whilst I build my garage/garden room at the back on my house (on to a private access road). May well do the same using your helpful video. I did have a thought on your set up as see at 4:48 there a view down your side passage to the rear showing the stepped block and brick-coped party wall that also recesses in narrowing the width of that gap further. I wondered if it swapped out for a thin fence that followed the middle line of the lower front wall if that would give enough wiggle room (and it would probably mean a wiggle!) to get your bikes down the passage? I imagine you considered this and may not have or want the garden space fo this anyway but just a thought. I'm also currently obsessed with groundworks (as part of my learning on myh project) and note that a very tidy cement base you have there out front!

Maybe add a tire frame to hold the back wheel so bike is upright when backed in .. I dont think I would want my bike on the side stand for long periods :) .This is very helpful though .. I might try to figure out working from a stable long wall with roof and frame to back bike in put on center stand then close three hinged doors (Two for the open long side and one for the end you enter from ... All held together by framing ... I would make it a bit taller so I could back the bike in sitting on it and be able to get off .. and out ..

Is it difficult to get out of the enclosed space you built?

Very nice idea, once I get our back yard a bit further in order I'll be making one (though slightly adapted) cause my bike has a kickstand and also I'd make it a bit bigger around the bike. Still thinking of ways to reduce extreme heat build up in summer and condensation. Guess some further out walls at the top and more inside walls at the botten with a wide enough overlapping gap and some mesh wire could do the trick to stay dry while allowing plenty airflow.. but it would probably not look as aesthetic as your design.

How do you fit the bike inside? It is quite low and narrow.

I paid to store my new moto in a friend's garage last winter here in the U.S. North East. So this is interesting. I'd like to see something of how you get the bike in and out of the shelter. What's more, my moto has a center stand, and takes a little bit of rocking motion to get it up on the stand. So I'm curious how you maneuver in the space.

You have used a security hinged lock but left door hinges exposed...

Daft question, but how do you get it on the stand once the bike is in place?

Hi pal, how much did all the timber cost?

Cool idea. But I bet 2 people could lift that frame up to get to your bike.
