You should always remember horses are herd animals, with a mind of their own and they weigh half a ton. A 9 stone jockey with a little stick ain't gonna make them do anything they don't want to do.

I have seen this before. The horse isn't into just running to run, a loafer as my boss called them when I was working at a racing stable, but they do take issue with another horse passing and getting in front of them.

Some horses are very competitive when they have other horses in their sight we have 2 and they both get jealous and want to be in front and they are cobs not racehorses

The way the horse was just like “a few miles left Im as fast a the fastest car on the earth I don’t have to keep going.” Until he had his challenge he was like “ok well sense this horse right here is just lemme speed up just a little more faster than YES WE WON!” But that’s so true
