Rare Footage of Uncontacted Tribesman in the Amazon Rainforest

New footage has emerged allegedly showing uncontacted members of a Brazilian indigenous tribe hunting in the Amazon rainforest.

The Awá tribe’s home forest is under serious threat from deforestation and logging, according to Survival International, an organisation that campaigns for tribal people’s rights.

The rare video was captured by a neighbouring tribe, the Guajajara, in Maranhao state in eastern Brazil.

A spokesperson for Midia India, an indigenous film-making association who recorded the interaction, said: “We didn’t have the Awá’s permission to film, but we know that it’s important to use these images because if we don’t show them around the world, the Awa will be killed by loggers.”

Local environmental groups believe deforestation and logging rates are on the rise since Jair Bolsonaro was elected President of Brazil.

Just a note to all the people making ignorant comments. For the love of god, PLEASE do your research before claiming something is fake (or real, for that matter)! The reason a "regular person" was able to "sneak up on a indigenous person like that" is because this was filmed by a member of the nearby Gujajara tribe, which has had much more contact with our civilization than the Guja tribe has. And for the person saying there's no way they've had no contact with other people because of the machete - he could have easily stolen that or gotten it as a gift from a member of another local tribe (like the Gujajara). The fact that we actually do have a decent amount of knowledge about the Guja people's lifestyle and beliefs shows that we've learned about them through the stories of other tribes with whom they've been in contact, which again shows that the Guja have enough contact with other tribes to have gotten the machete in one way or another.
