Detailed instructions for tying an Olive X-Caddis.

Hook: Standard dry-fly hook (e.g. Dai-Riki 305), sizes 12-16.         
Thread: 6/0, olive.          
Shuck: Zelon, olive.          
Body: Dubbing (rabbit/Antron blend), olive.         
Wing: Natural deer hair, cleaned and stacked.         
Head: Deer-hair butts.

I think a lot of tyers hate this pattern because it's so simple and works so well. When trout are on caddis at the surface you don't need much else.

I have caught trout on this pattern even when they were rising to specific may flies.  If the trout are looking up,  I like my chances with this fly.  I always have this fly in my box.  Twitch it a little bit too at times in areas where trout aren't rising and you might get surprised.
