I have a virtual machine Windows Server 2019 File server in Hyper-v, should select Virtual Machine in the backup option? Or should I follow what you are saying to do to backup a windows file server? Thanks!

The one thing that I can't get my head around is: Why is there (still) no option to encrypt the backup of File Servers (for example the same way as with HyperBackup does)?

I tried using this software to make a backup of a shared windows file server to then migrate to a new synology file server, but it doesn't seem to work. There is no option to restore to another machine, only the one you backed up from. So now I'm trying to do this task using Synology drive...

My current windows server share folder is about 2TB in size in business environment. If I am doing multi-versioned backup every hourly, Does the synology backsup whole 2TB every hour?

Would like to know if its recommended to do incremental backups due to very large shared folder? I tryed incremental backup but does not show any version control unless its setup as multiversioned

Hi, would you consider doing a video on the new option to backup an entire NAS to another device. The instructions provided by Synology when you try to do it look like something is missing it says "must be installed..." but it doesn't tell you what and then the 3 steps it tells you to do make no sense at all to me.

for a 32-bit OS the application is NOT available - you MUST have a 64-bit OS - the DS222J uses a 32-bit OS

My 2 cents. If you have the Synology attached to Windows AD... backup using a local Synology user that doesn't exist in the domain. I saw a company who had their servers cryptoed and it hit the backup share too because their Domain Admin's had access to the share. Again, Use a local account and remove access to the share the backup is being stored in.

I would prefer a non proprietary backup solution which rules out hyperbackup unfortunately :(.

I think active backup would work with the versioning and schedules to give autonomous management.

I need to investigate if it offers any compression though as that's a major drawcard of the hyperbackup solution
