James Fennell here.

Words can hardly describe how I felt when I found that Ebay listing and was able confirm the identity of the included film. I really was left in stunned silence for a few minutes.

I'm currently working on a video about Cleopatra and the discovery of the footage.

I actually got choked up when I learned that more footage of Cleopatra had been found. It's one of those pieces of lost media that I had always just accepted we would never find more of. Not only does the footage being found give me hope that more footage has been preserved that we might find one day, it gives me more hope that there are even more of Theda Bara's films out there just waiting to be found in some obscure way.

The entirety of JBVO being found thanks to someone’s mom working at CN was truly one of the most incredible lost media finds.

There were some massive lost media discoveries last year but the way that Cleopatra footage was rediscovered inside an old toy projector was wild. I'd be interested in learning more about that story. Is it possible that more footage was originally included with the projector? Or was the film taken from a complete reel?

I'm over 60 and have been a serious movie fan since the 1970s and all my life any footage from 1917 Cleopatra has been top five holy grail among movie buffs. This was a real shocker and pretty amazing to see. Excellent job on this list, my dude.

That SpongeBob Behind closed doors is my favorite found media. It was bizarre and funny to see it. That stuff is like Rule 34 type artwork lol.

I've never heard about SpongeBob Behind Closed Doors but looking at the uncensored photos, it reminds me of Newgrounds tier crude content like the game collab animations, and I'm all in for it.

As for lostwave mysteries in 2024, another old one has been correctly identified: Digital Girl, by Janusz Bronakowski (2003), previously "Digital World"
NOT "Digital Girl", which is still mysterious.

"What Do You Want From Me" another song featured on 1 or 2 YT channels about lost media, was revealed to be a demo from 1983 by Steve Kipner: Don't Call It Love.

the toy film projector was probably a 9.5 mm pathé baby projector.
the thing is with pathé baby reels is that you could order your own choice of a well-known movie on many small reels so to find lost media inspecting pathé baby reels is a must if we one day find a snippet of London after midnight it will be on a pathé baby reel.
the format was in existence from about 1912 to the 1960s recordable cassettes could be ordered up to the mid-1980s.
the format was on safety film and it was very stable and only deteriorate due to wear and tear so a neatly stored box will always hold nearly mint footage and is very crisp and clear for its small size I have never seen a badly damaged film from this format so archeo-lost media detectives do a deep dive on this format you might find more than expected.

Some of the footage seems to have been shot during the landings too. You can see what appears to be soldiers getting shot and falling to the floor.

I still think the finding of the last 9/11 Muzak song "Windless" deserved some form of recognition in these 2023 found media lists.

"The Final Game of Death" is a masterpiece, both the parts (found footage commented and the cut they made based on the footage found)
