Get the Coverage You Need for a Stress-Free Car Rental Experience: Learn About Turo Protection Plans

Turo is a unique car rental experience, but also comes with unique insurance coverage requirements. You need to be aware of the different kinds of coverages available in order to keep yourself safe and stress-free during your rental period.

Physical Damage contracts are one option, which include physical damage only – no interior or mechanical damage. As a guest, you’re responsible for any damage to the vehicle regardless of fault, and there are four protection plan options available. The Premier plan covers all physical damage with no deductible, while Standard and Minimum plans require you to pay up to $500/$3,000 out-of-pocket respectively. Lastly, the Decline Coverage plan requires a $500 deposit unless the rented vehicle is undrivable (in which case it’s $3,000).

Additionally, Liability coverage pays for bodily injury and property damage claims involving third parties up to policy limits (which vary by state). Non-commercial hosts have Personal Injury protection depending on whether their state requires it or not.

Keep in mind that this coverage is secondary – it only kicks in above and beyond your existing insurance policy. Before renting via Turo make sure to contact your insurance company as policies can differ when it comes to “car-sharing” being covered.

Thank you for this video.
Every other video is about the Hosts insurance.

I just saw that the liability of the premium protection plan in Turo covers only up to the state-minimum, not 750K, is this correct? Perhaps they changed it?

Good video, but one suggestion. I would compare TURO to AirBnB for vehicles.

Why would I need to provide
My personal insurance to Turo if I paid for the standard plan? The reason o got this plan was to give me peace of mind that my personal provider would not be involved.

Thanks for this video. One thing I'm still trying to wrap my mind around: I don't understand how/why Turo can charge both hosts AND renters for protection plans. Let's say a host pays for a protection plan, but the renter has no protection plan or insurance. And then the renter gets into an accident. Wouldn't the host's plan go into effect? Why would the renter have a separate liability if the host has already bought a protection plan? It doesn't add up to me. Can you please help me understand? Thanks so much!

I’d be more interested in knowing if I can just add the vehicle to my insurance so I’m fully covered

All the vehicles have liability insurance and they can’t be on the road with out an insurance. So if there is no fault collision or theft than the host’s insurance which was already there by default should be able to cover it.

Does Turo accept secondary and/or primary credit card coverage if an accident occurs ? Great video.

What happened if the car dies on the road. What do the renters do?

So if we get some plan are they gonna charge us and take it away right away for protection or are they gonna hold it and if it doesn’t get damaged they give it back?

Had an. Insurance guy explain and still didn’t answer how to insure your car in the first place (geico State Farm progressive ) when your car is not in service. Your insurer will try to find any reason to deny coverage. So your personal car with personal insurance gets NO COVERAGE if you cause a small accident on date night and then file a claim. They will say oh you’re not covered because you violated our terms of service.

What about if I currently have insurance through State Farm with my own personal vehicle in the State that I live in, and I want to rent a BMW with Turo in the state of Arizona? Wont my current insurance cover accidents and incidents with a rental?

So if I rent a Tesla X Model, I wouldn't be covered?

I'm from Costa Rica, I don't have a personal insurance, so If I get the Premier Protection, I don't have to worry about anything on a regular vehicle ($<20k), is this statement correct?
