Empowering Women Leaders in Health

In this talk, Dr Bourgeault will provide an overview of the state of knowledge about women’s leadership in the domains of health care, health sciences and Indigenous health contexts. Based on this literature as well as interviews and focus groups with emerging and established women leaders, Dr. Bourgeault will share some promising practices to help women achieve leadership roles.

Dr. Ivy Lynn Bourgeault

Ivy is a Professor in the Telfer School of Management and the Institute of Population Health at the University of Ottawa and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Chair in Gender, Work and Health Human Resources. She is also the Scientific Director of the pan-Ontario Population Health Improvement Research Network and the Ontario Health Human Resource Research Network both housed at the University of Ottawa with funding from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-term Care. Dr. Bourgeault also leads the pan Canadian Health Human Resources Network with funding from Health Canada and the CIHR. She has been a consultant to various provincial Ministries of Health in Canada, to Health Canada and to the World Health Organization. Her recent research focuses on the migration of health professionals and their integration into the Canadian health care system. Dr. Bourgeault sits on the international editorial board of Sociology of Health and Illness and the Journal of Marketing and Management in Healthcare as well as on the Institute Advisory Board of the CIHR Institute of Health Services and Policy Research. She is the cofounder of the bilingual Canadian Society for the Sociology of Health.
