I think it's because the Switch 2 is compatible to PLAY with old joycons, but won't be able to charge them.

Backward compatible games and controllers makes complete sense. I think you are spot on. The new switch won’t be able to charge the old controllers so they had to find a solution.

I think making the NES Joycons more widely available would have been a better promo than releasing this charging station. Case in point: Japan’s special edition of NWC came with Famicom Joycons instead of the replica cart.

I think its weird that nes champs is so popular but nobody thought it was weird they never ported NES remix. Literally nobody even mentioned it. Nes champs is awesome for sure.

1. I heard that this is for the switch successor since there is no way you can connect the old Joy cons on it.
2. Maybe switch 2 could be mentioned in October when this releases.
3. Maybe what you said could also be a reason but everyone at this point probably bought a third party charging dock

Would have made more sense for the grip that came with the switch could be used for charging the joycons while in tabletop mode.
