I think that Urahara might be Senjumaru's son, born in the royal palace and then sent to the Sereitei as a teen. This would explain why the Shihoin clan was willing to foster him (and they are almost as rigid and traditional as the Kuchiki), as well as how he had seen the red and white blood/bone hell pools. Also, it would explain his intellect, why his bankai abilities are stitching related reality warping (like Senjumaru's), how he has some of the same mannerisms as Oetsu, and how he had previously seen the Soul King (as he admitted when talking with Aizen). This would also explain his uncommonly high reiatsu, as he grew up in a dense spiritual energy area.

He also greets Ichigo and crew with "good to see you; it's been a while" when they are meeting Squad Zero. People assume that he is talking to Ichigo, who he just saw, when it's possible that he's talking to Squad Zero.

Senjumaru was Leader of reasearch and science department when she was in soul society.. It was not a squad just a organization different from Gotei 13

I’ve been going with the whole headcanon that Urahara is somehow related to Senjumaru for the longest time esp with more details revealed by kubo just last year:

For those who are unaware, Kubo basically mentioned that before Urahara created the SRDI, an ‘unofficial group’ of scientists/inventors existed, with Senjumaru as their leader & Mayuri being apart of it (hence their direct albeit hostile interaction when she arrived)

For starters, we know urahara & mayuri alr knew each other by their greeting at the maggot’s nest (although no other history was given). A theory could be mayuri might have been possibly arrested for his dangerous experiments aft senju got promoted & there was no ‘proper leadership/supervision’ (which ig he always wanted) which was why urahara’s deal was so attractive to him???

That aside, i think these also added to the theory that Senjumaru could be related to Urahara (ps its very longgg):

- Origin: Urahara grew up at the Shihoin mansion along with Yoruichi as his childhood bestie which is kinda sus that he’s so closely ‘related’ to a noble clan from birth w/o *actually descending* from the clan or having other noble connections?

- Zanpakuto/Combat: The most common reason stated for their relation aka is his Bankai which resembles her looks & even abilities in some manner, via the names like u mentioned & stitches/weaving effect of it all & being able to ‘manipulate the fabric’ of space to some extent; their Shikais also share a similar theme with a multitude of diff abilities ranging from offense to binding to defense, which compliments their combat styles being both very clever & unpredictable…

- It is now cfmed they both come from a background of being scientists/inventors & Urahara might have even named the Shutara Scale aft her (?)

- He was also overall unphased by Aizen’s rant abt submitting to *that thing*, immediately knowing he’s referring to the SK & the importance of him as the linchpin etc

- This one is the biggest (reach) imo: I feel like Urahara might’ve been raised in the SK palace maybe for abit or at least alr visited & knew abt Squad 0 on a more personal basis given he has ‘insider’ knowledge of almost ALL the members’ inventions:
1) Kirinji: recreated a version of his healing hot springs in his basement
2) Oetsu: knows enough abt the Zanpakuto to invent a method to achieve bankai in 3 DAYS
3) Senjumaru: not much to add but just that he could’ve created the reiatsu concealing cloak (a clothing item btw) based aft her ability to constantly ‘blend & camouflage’ with the surroundings via the tapestries
4) Hikifune: clearly very knowledgeable abt gikon/gigais in general with the 2 kids at his shop being mod souls
5) Ichibe: too ancient for him to be affiliated to this evil monk with just ‘names’ lmaooo

There’s definitely some link between Urahara, the Shihoin clan, the Soul King, and possibly Mayuri. Though Mayuri could just be explained by Urahara being ordered to arrest him at some point long ago for doing dangerous experiments. I hope we get a flashback in the anime showing how Urahara and the Shihoins are related at the very least.

Maybe the reason why she lost her real arms was because of a stronger hollow at the time than her, but she was younger and she’s happened to be saved by Urahara when he was strong enough and smart enough to make arms for her, and she took him on under her wing, and when he got zompoctoe his appreciation and willingness to work with women enhanced his chance of getting a female spirit, and since he clearly is not afraid of women and see as a powerful force of nature, his spirit gave him a strong female to work with someone who symbolizes Sengumaru
