Learning curve is mostly a function of documentation and the need for more contributers. Nixos is one system where being a user who is a dev will probably also end up being a contributer.

I like that NixOS lets me know and declare exactly what's going on with my computer. It means I know that my desktop will look and work exactly the same, my programs will all be the same version and won't have dependency clashes. If I want, I can have different versions of the same programs and they will both work because every version has its own hash. And if I break something I can just roll back my computer to an earlier configuration. The only problem is the learning curve. That's it.

People keep bringing up this learning curve. Im the Lord of Noobing and my 4 years and arch was simply learning how to follow instructions. Ive been on NixOS for a few months now and I can say its easier to follow instructions MINUS the advanced stage like flakes/home-manager and pushing all those configs to git. ONLY because theres few documentation for it and sometimes its people like me explaining what to do but think theyre Linux Alphas.

I love NixOS and I hope it continues to grow. Things in the community are becoming fractured at the moment, but hopefully, this will subside in the future either by 1) people deciding to work together more, or 2) more forks that settle on commen layers of compatibility. The latter option may be the most realistic and beneficial for the community as a whole.

Bismillahi Rahman-ı Rahim. I'm using NixOS for last three years. It is wonderfull for me... Btw, I'm a developer. In my experience, learning curve is not messy... There is huge community and you could find answers by asking an AI engine...

I wanna give it a try one day. It's nice to be able to use rolling releases, without the fear of breaking your system.

I absolutely hate dockerfiles, so I often use nix to actually build the docker container. That way container production is reproducible for when you need to edit your dockerfile. (And also dockerfiles are just awful to write)

I switched to NixOS a few weeks back, and it was 100% not worth it. Once I get a chance to migrate away, I will. The learning curve, poor documentation, and limitations on user space totally nerf the cool aspects of reproducibility, for me.
