Reagan called out fake news before it was cool

When "Uncle Ronny" became president I was out of the service 4 years, was 2 years into my apprenticeship as a bricklayer and there was more work, prices for everything were affordable and America stood strong and proud. Just the opposite of today. President Ronald Reagan was great for this country as was President Trump.

It's a shame that so many younger Americans don't know what's good for country - they want the opposite.

The crazy thing is that he was actually a CA governor.

He had a great sense of humor too. To all you detractors, wake the eff up, he was a great President.

A perfect man? No
A good man? Absolutely.
A great president? Yes.

That "economic growth" meant 19% more government revenue and tripling the debt 9 billion to 2.7 trillion, what great programs.

My late grandfather would disagree on economic growth; he lost his job as part of Reaganomics.

Let’s not gloss over the fact that he reduced 2A rights by banning automatic weapons.

Lower taxes, smaller government, strong defense, and talking about balanced budgets while growing the public debt more than any previous President.

He is the model of modern Republicans: bamboozle your voters by talking about balanced budgets while growing the public debt as fast (or faster) than prior Presidents.

I was fortunate to have lived through the Reagan years and prosperity convinced me he was right. I went from being a very liberal Democrat to being a Libertarian. I fell in love with the clear benefits of a smaller and limited government. Can you even imagine how difficult that change was here in bright blue Portland, Oregon?😊🎉

Hey Alexis, are you going to mention the countless invasions Reagan did of South and Central American countries that directly led to the immigration crisis we’re experiencing today? What about Iran-Contra? Strike busting? Wall Street deregulation? Big Pharma deregulation? He worked with the state chapters of the KKK and NRA in California when he was governor to strip black people of their rights. Anything to say about that. Reagan’s economic policies as president led to record debt and deficits at the time. If you want to debate me on any of these topics, I will happily indulge you.

You don’t realize how good he was when you see what’s happening in our country today.

Today we have unlimited government. Spend spend spend. We’ll just print more. Doesn’t matter which administration.

To this day I'm proud that I voted for Reagan. So far he's been the greatest President in my lifetime. His only notable downside during that time was that despite championing lower taxes and limited government, he had trouble saying 'no' to government programs, allowing the budget to climb while blaming the Congress for the record deficits of the 80's.

He has 2 legacies that I care about.
1; In 1986 he banned the manufactur of machine guns.
2; he made manufacturers of vaccines exempt from litigation and lawsuits.

Note that he did not engage in culture wars, but pragmatically in making government better.
However, he also contributed strongly to busting unions and increasing inequality, and insensitivity to helping the poor.

He also did not slow the neocon war project. He enabled those like ghwb and Dick Cheney to make plans for war department deficit spending and foreign intervention from Greneda to Lebanon. Defense is required. Paying for wars should also be required or the loss arrives, only slowly.
