I saw similar idea many years ago, except it was a "swing up" section of fence, held up with a prop. The swinging section had more droppers and no posts (except the centre tie down post), and was easy to swing up using the prop as a lever. I was a kid at the time and didn't take note of the exact mechanism, just thought it was very clever. I think the idea was to spread foot traffic over a wide area, eliminating a boggy conventional gate.
