How Are Map Difficulties Decided in BTD6?

preview_player
Показать описание
Map difficulties are decided in BTD6 via 4 factors:
1. Track Length
2. Line of Sight
3. Gimicks
4. # of Tracks

The 4th factor seems to be weighted the most, but all 4 play a part. If you look at all of the advanced and expert maps, you can see how each of them are sorted.

The big thing I think that makes Dark Castle so much easier than Geared is that it has water.

I ran out of time to make an outro, but let me know if you think of any other factors that go into deciding a maps difficulty!

Bazaar being in intermediate difficulty to be another contender for wrong difficulty in my opinion.
It has two tracks, both are relatively short and line of sight is one of the most awful ones in btd6 overall, I'd say.

Balance is apparently an intermediate map but it feels way too easy for an intermediate map.

xfactor makes some expert maps look like a joke

geared's concept is pretty cool imo

Honestly cornfield is an intermediate with a gimmick

And then came Glacial Trail and shattered this logic

I wouldn't call geared a long track. Its definitely shorter than most tracks, especially worse since it's basically a line track with no overlapping track

Changes that need to be made: balance needs to be easy, bazaar needs to be advanced, geared needs to be expert, and dark castle needs to be advanced

Here's a fifth factor that could make a lot of sense: Tower Placement Space (includes water).
also do i care that this short was like 2 years ago? nah.

Map space also makes a difference. I'm stuck on infernal chimps

Off the coast is honestly a map I think should be intermediate. It's decently long, pretty good line of sight, a lot of space for water and land towers, and no gimmick. The only justification I can think of for it to be advanced is that the track never really goes back on itself and the fact that half the map is water making not using any water towers decently hard. But it's still really easy compared to some of the other advanced maps.

Now it makes sense why hedge is a beginner map and not an intermediate map.
