How to Not Go Bald!

Here's a few tips that you can do daily at home everyday to help you not go bald. Now, this has personally helped me from hair loss for the last 20 years when I started losing hair at 18 years old.
I cannot prove that this method works but it has worked for me. It doesn't hurt to try and won't cost you any money so definitely try it if you are balding and especially if you are in late teens, when most people start losing hair. Keep your follicles clean and dry.

Guys, before you leave your awesome hair loss prevention techniques, please leave them ONLY if you ever actually had hair loss problem like I did. If you are the lucky 1% that doesn't have this problem, I don't think your advice is relevant since your genes are good. FYI, I lost a lot of hair when I was 16 to 18 years old. Thx.

Max, I love you but you have completely misunderstood how male pattern baldness works. It's really not a "secret", it's pretty much a scientific fact how it works.

Basically the hair follicles have androgen receptors that make the follicles shrink when exposed to androgens (ie. male hormones). How sensitive the hair follicles are is genetically predisposed.

The only way to slow male pattern baldness is to block those androgens from hitting the hair follicle receptors. This is done with alpha-reductase blockers which essentially block testosterone from becoming dihydrotestosterone which is the main villain to your hair.

Drugs exist to block the enzymes (alpha-reductase) that convert test into dihydrotest, the most potent being Dutasteride (because it blocks both types of alpha-reductase, while other drugs like Finasteride only block one type). Note: these blockers have potential side effects like erectal dysfunction.

Your "drying the hair" tip has absolutely zero effect.

Cheers

PS: shaving hair has no effect to hair loss either. None. Zero.

PPS: working out doesn't create more testosterone.... body builders who go bald usually do it because they take lots of testosterone - if their hair follicles are prone to shrink, taking androgens will accelerate the hairloss rate. Normal people who don't inject androgens cannot change the hair loss by working out - or not.

PPPS: there is one method which works 100%: cut off your balls.

My father went bald in his early 20s. I'm 32 next month and still have a full head of hair. My hairline has only changed slightly. I've read/heard that if your mothers side of the family is bald that there is a higher risk of losing your hair. As apparently the female can pass the gene on easier. Something along those lines. In this case for me it looks true as my mother's side all have most of their hair.

Max you're not high on Android here, you're just high... Genetics are the perpetrator, plain and simple.

An old guy once told me to strengthen hair and jeey the grey at bay. Put cold water in your hair each morning before your product and styling. It's made my hair strong and I have little grey for someone in my 50's

Dude, Maxxx I think you're on to something. I'm 30 and had been having a slight receding hairline. For me I had long hair but I sweat super easy and all the moisture stayed in my hair. On top of the ponytail pulling on my scalp wasn't helping either. When I cut it, it was easier to keep dry and that slowed it down. Cheers brother!

This video is really helpfull! I had a red scalp and lost some hair about a year ago and people started to say i was going bald, i was using Head and Shoulders at the time and it turned out i was allergic to it. So for about a year i've just used black tea to wash my hair once a week and rinse with cold water for the rest of the week, and massaging my hair with a shampoo brush every day.

My hair is thick, full, and clean. Thanks for the tips, i will try using a hair dryer (i know my mum has a spare one somewhere). Cheers!

How long did it take to grow your hair that long? You're 38 and have no grey hairs?

Being older than you and having loads more hair (much longer than yours for over 25 years), I can honestly say I NEVER dry mine..EVER, but if it works for you then great

What if you don't care because hair doesn't define who you are and that you're confident enough and mature enough to deal with it? I never wore a hat at all...I just shaved my head bald and was done with it. It's more of an embarrassment for someone that's balding and they do all of this comb over crap and try and hide the inevitable.

I believe you follow your granddad's (Your Mothers, Father) baldness pattern.
My cousin is as bald as a coot! By the age he was 35 but his father had a full head of hair until he passed at 53. Where my dad went bald at 18 but I still have a good head of hair at 46 although its noticeably thinner than when I was in my 20s.

What about keeping hair oily? Cause oil is good for hair rather than having a dry scalp?

Did your hair stylist say drying your hair fully only works for men? I'm sure women would lose their hair around the same rate if this was true.

Usually for MPB your hairline recedes and grows thinner. Most of the time it even follows a "pattern" too. It doesn't have anything to do with having a moist head. There is stress induced hairloss which can seem frightening but it grows back for the most part. There are also several forms of alopecia which cause hair loss that may be permanent regardless of what you do, and it is different than male pattern baldness. Hey, but you did say you can't prove if that method works. But if you're losing hair and want to attempt to keep it, just see a dermatologist to see what the cause is and they'll suggest ways to slow it down or reverse it.
Also, scientist are working on the cure for MPB. It's on the way, don't worry. Sadly there isn't much we can do about alopecia.

If you're dead-set on keeping your hair, it's insultingly easy. If you're in the U.S.:
1. Get a prescription from a physician/dermatologist for finasteride.
2. Get Walmart generics for $9. Cut the 30 tablets into quarters. Taking one of these quarters a day lowers DHT (the androgen responsible for MPB) by ~70%.
3. As long as you keep doing this regimen (I mean, four months for $9 is a no-brainer), your hair should stay the same. And if you catch it early enough, some hair can even grow back.

Low DHT can cause erectile dysfunction, so it's a potential trade-off you have to consider. Since DHT is produced from testosterone, preventing testosterone from converting to DHT will increase your testosterone. However, your body regulates this by aromatizing this extra testosterone into estrogen, which could have some vaguely feminizing effects. Of course, your mileage may vary.

It's not a _perfect_ solution, but it _is_ a solution.
