Mathematics: Finding Rank of Matrix

I learned linear algebra more than 6-7 years ago, so I forgot the very basic concepts of rank calculations. Because of your clear and easy explanations, now I can get the picture of elementary operations and the notion of ranks. Thank you very much!

Generally we do not combine row and column operations because it causes loss of information. However, for finding rank, even if you mix the row and column transformations, everything will be fine. It may speed up the process. Only for those
WHO understand me. This may benefit you. :P

If, u interchange the rows, don't we need to add a "-1" ?

If the elements in a particular row are 0 0 0 1, where the one is in the solution column (x+y+z=1), does that row still get counted when we calculate the rank?

Finding a matrices rank is indeed a simplest thing in GATE exam. All you need is to choose one option and a real good luck. :P

kya 4×4 ki matrix me rank 4 nahi aa sakta becoz 3×3 me determinamt zero na aaye to rank 3 agar aaye to further step karne padte ha but 4×4 ki matrix me hum kaise check kare ki iska rank 4 ha ya nahi plz reply

In our earlier class we have learnt that when we interchange any row or any column place a negative sign on matrix....than how will you change a row without putting this sign...sir please explain this...

It does not matter in this particular situation but still a point, when rows are interchanged negative is added ..

for this example rank of matrix is 2 but probably u may make row 2 also o by r2-r3 as all the three row is same hence rank will be 1 so how this process satisfied?
