I had memory loss and other bizarre symptoms in my 30s when I supported a mammoth Diet Pepsi habit. My friend laughed and told me it was the aspartame. I quit cold turkey. The symptoms miraculously disappeared - and quickly, too! True story. Never went back. N=1 of course, but my experience still remains relevant here.

I quit ALL fake sugars and it had a huge impact on cravings. Now, I’m very sensitive to sugar. Little goes a long way.

I wish someone would do head to head sugar, high fructose corn syrup, sucralose, aspartame, and allulose to test for insulin, glucose, and insulin resistance. If that data were available then we really could make better informed choices. Interesting information to add to the mix. Thanks, Nick, for sharing this paper.

I made the choice years ago not to use any artificial sweetener. Back then it was give me sugar, or I'll skip it. Same with HF corn syrup. Now I know more even about sugar and starches, so for the last year, low carb only. Wonderful results!

Makes me even more glad I gave up Diet Coke and similar products long ago. Thanks for all the data you share, and for your balanced, nuanced, and thoughtful approach to data.

I've been anti aspartame for a long time, thanks for the verification. I had a brother who died from a heart attack, maybe drinking diet coke was part of that, but I know aspartame is also neurotoxic and that is a good enough reason to avoid it.

Aspartame gives me migraines. I was so happy when I heard that Pepsi removed it from their product I was able to drink diet soda again and then they sneakily put it back in without telling us and those of us who are allergic to it found out the hard way by drinking the damn soda and getting sick. I fired a letter off to PepsiCo and they said oh well you can buy the other diet soda online yeah I looked at the cost and it was double the price and I asked them why they would put aspartame back in especially when people have allergies to it without announcing it and they never answered me.

I want to see a study on Aspartame and Thyroid Cancer! I personally know 8 people who are heavy Diet Coke drinkers who have all had Thyroid Cancer. I know that it is a small sample but out of the 30 or so people that I keep in touch with regularly, all from different families and all in different places a 27% rate of a specific type of cancer seems a bit suspect!

Kudos to Nick on his nuanced presentation of this data. I think the last time that I consumed an artificial sweetener was when I was a freshman in college -over 56 years ago.

Your short had me eagerly waiting for this video! I’m about to dive deep into this rabbit hole. 😊 I already know the sucralose in the zeros affects micro biome in the gut. This may be the nail in the coffin of my diet soda drinking.😳🤯 as always thanks for the great info Nick!!!

This makes sense. I thought I was fighting insulin resistance because my diet was crappy but the diet coke addiction didn't help, either. Fortunately, I left that behind years ago. Ty! I appreciate the data.

I've drunk thousands of diet sodas over the last 50+ years. Use Spenda in my coffee. Didn't stop me from losing weight with keto and doesn't seem to be having much impact on my health. No headaches. Resting pulse is 57. Blood pressure a bit high (systolic 135) but that may be from downing ibuprofen like candy during 3 decades in the military.

Thank you - This is much better (easier to follow) than your earlier video on this topic a few days ago.

Already have not consumed for almost 30 years due to its neurotoxicity, so no Diet Coke addiction ;). Great information- thank you!

While none of us can really argue this point about aspartame, I think that if one is eating 99% clean carnivore, having an occasional treat with something that "may contribute to heart issues" isn't the worst thing one can do on a special occasion. A person can be 100% clean, but if they're a chronic overthinker that keeps stress hormones high, that alone can lead to weight gain, stalls, insomnia and heart troubles. Choose wisely, and to each their own.
