The Great Tribulation-When, Where, & Why

This is an often misunderstood section of Scripture that has been used in the creation of many aberrant religious groups and has been used as a source of criticism from many unbelievers and higher-critical scholars. When did Jesus say He was going to return in judgment? Where did He say this was going to take place? Why was He warning them of this?

Is this passage about the "end of the world" or the end of the Old Covenant "age"? As Christians, we all believe that Jesus is returning for the resurrection (1 Cor. 15). However, is this particular passage about that truth or is this about a local judgement upon His generation?

Raised as JW here. I remember my dad telling me we are in the last days when I was a child. He read the scripture to me and I remember thinking how are we going to get to the mountains in Judea? We don’t even live near mountains. So I asked him. He said we’re just going to have to go as high as we can. It didn’t make sense. I knew it. As. A. Child. This makes so much more sense.

I’m a new Christian at 41 years old, praise the Lord. But, I went to a Christian school that taught that the end is near. I didn’t care about the Bible other than Revelation. I was obsessed with the end times too. Thank you Pastor Jeff for this. You have really opened my eyes in many ways and I have learned so much from you. May the Lord continue to bless you, your family, and your flock.

Couple years ago I listened to you every night at work, all night long, I wasn't making any effort to live according to what the word of God teaches . I had some Christian background and had one understanding of the "rapture" the 7 years etc . When I heard you speak of something contrary to what I had been taught I stopped listening, but that was the extent of trying to get to God at that time . Fast forward Sept 2019 I am now a born again Christian . I won't study from anything except KJV, my first desire became to find a sound church . Cincinnati Ohio, so far the churches I've visited I could just tell something wasnt quite right . So I began to search the scriptures for how to find the truth of the gospel . Studying false everything so I wouldn't get sucked into a bad place . I started searching YT to find sound teaching while I looked for a church, stumbled across Living Waters and What shall I cry . What shall I cry does a great job exposing false teachers and I began to wonder why he hadn't mentioned Jeff Durbin . I believe the bible and now I'm searching for scriptures that you teach that is contrary to what I believed . That said my heart is broken because I can't find a sound church . Do you if anyone even keeps up with the comments know anyone in Cincinnati Ohio because I want a church family so bad . I hope

I followed that path also, reading the “Left Behind” series, watching the movies, watching the “Thief in the Night” series, listening to the songs “I Wish We ‘d All Been Ready”, and “Midnight Cry” and never heard that it was the unbelievers taken away. Has me rethinking everything. Great sermon.

Goodness Jeff you made me feel old. I was a “Maranatha Jesus hippy” in 1970 & knew immediately the Larry Norman song you referred to. I am finally learning tradition vs truth teaching after taking a hermeneutics class. Because of God, through you, my sweet daughter’s life has turned 180 degrees.

I am frustrated now. I was happy with learning doctrines of grace. Then, in one day, I learn that all of the the reformed theologists I follow have differing views on eschatology. NOW I have to figure out what I believe. I'm pooped! I will have to quit my job now. It is going to take a solid 12 years to iron out my theology. I might as well learn Koine Greek, Hebrew, and Aremaic.

Learning about this has completely changed my perspective about what’s happening in the world. It’s horrid to see the evil that’s happening, but knowing that God will be victorious through the spreading of the gospel is very comforting.
