Ottawa civil servants still resisting in-person work

Summer in Ottawa is expected to be especially tense this year due to public sector unions opposing a government directive requiring civil servants to work in the office three days a week. Macdonald-Laurier Institute domestic policy director Aaron Wudrick joined True North’s Andrew Lawton to explain how this tension may impact the workforce, and the potential effect on public services.

4 years later and this crap is still going on. 90 percent of all levels of government should be disbanded. A country cannot survive when more than a quarter of the working class are employed by government. This waste is our labor that is taken from us without our consent, and then is wasted on these bastards who won't go to work but still get paid full wage. Insanity!

Private sector keep giving. Public sector keeps taking.

The Canadian taxpayer needs a reconciliation of the 100, 000 + government "employees" that were hired by the Trudeau Liberals. Are any of them doing any work? What are they spending their days doing? These are issues the private sector deals with on a regular basis. Accountability is key and must be investigated.

I am a restaurant owner in Ottawa, I can tell you that the downtown core is dead. Many businesses shut down since the pandemic. Many work with reduced hours. Most restaurants don’t bother opening until dinner service since most streets are empty with the exception of the wandering homeless. The liberals killed the private sector and Canadians will dearly pay for it.

It's insulting to people who worked on the front line.

The public sector is not productive or accountable for the amount that they are paid. Greed at its best.

Vote PPC and let's reduce the size of government.

I run a bakery. Not a day off and not a sick day for 15 years except for Christmas. Only the two employees that got myocarditis had to take extended time off. One will never be able to return to work.

They want to continue working from home so they can look after their children, do housework, yard work, shopping etc...
They also want to save money by not paying parking, eating out etc...
If productivity levels were at an acceptable level this wouldn't be an issue.
If you want to work from home, then do the work.

They are resisting it because they know they only do an hour of actual work in an 8 hour day. Theyre thinking "why should i go in when i only work for an hour? I could stay home, do my hour of work and then catch up on that woodworking project or do the dishes or watch netflix".
I have a friend who works from home. I use that term work sparingly, but he literslly runs his own business. If he was forxed to go back in, he wouldnt be abke to double dip.

Government workers are a drain and its because of the culture from yhe top down

Oh the topic today is government greed and public employees that support the system.
The ever-shrinking private sector is what is supporting the public sector in government. Time is running out!!
The future doesn't look good in many ways in Canada.

As an ex Fed employee, it is definitely an entitlement issue. Not for the workers who at lower pay levels, have been going in to the office. They call them esencial workers. It's the higher levels and managers who, from my experience working with them before 2020, they rarely worked while they were in the office. Now they sit at home making 90, 000 plus and spend their days at the lakes and beaches, walking their dogs, and doing whatever they want when they want.

There are plenty of people in need of a job who are willing to go into the office. if they don't want to return to the office then strik them off pay and hire those who want and need jobs.

WHY SHOULD TAX PAYERS NOT EXPECT TO HAVE EMPLOYEES IN PROBABLY HUGE BUILDINGS THAT THEY ARE PAYING TO HEAT AND MAINTAIN?

I wonder how many of these individuals actually worked a hard day in their life. Actual manual labour. Such a fluffy job sitting behind a desk/wicket and computer entries. And yet they cry because they have to go into work?! A massive joke Canada has become.

It's a security issue as well. I don't want my (or anyones) information on some random persons makeshift desk in their spare room.

Of course they don't want to actually show up at work when they can get paid for doing nothing from home. They should get a large deduction in their Pay Check!

Why is supporting local restaurants and other small business such a bad idea?

I guess flying in a million more people from India will fix this somehow.
