Profile Save Corrupt! Steam Cloud Sync Conflict

**UPDATE**
This was addressed but not solved in patch #4 (October 3, 2012)
"Known issue:
Saves not synchronizing with the Steam cloud. If you are experiencing issues with saves uploaded to Steam's cloud, we recommend using saved games stored on your local drive/PC."

**UPDATE**
I was not able to recover my Profile Save. This is a major issue with Steam at the moment and there is no easy fix for this. It is a steam cloud sync issue not anything specific with F1 2012. Apparently this can happen at any time with any game.

I have also disable Steam Cloud Synchronization in settings. I made due without Steam Cloud for years. Until it's more reliable or there's an easier and more effective way to recover I won't be using this feature. Again, if anyone has any more information or fix please leave it in the comments section. Thanks!

_________________________________________________________________________

I booted F1 2012 and had a "Cloud Sync Conflict" popup. "Your local F1 2012 files conflict with the ones stored in the Steam Cloud." I have to pick between downloading Cloud Files to my PC or uploading Local Files to Steam Cloud. I chose to download cloud files, which overwrites the local. Not 100% sure if this is a Steam Cloud issue or another Codemasters Profile Save bug? This happened to me with DiRT 2 once and I know people have had issues with other games in the series. I wish I had researched this a little before I decided to download the cloud files. Maybe there is a fix but now I think I'm screwed. Sucks, I was at least 20+ hours in.
I just wanted to make people aware. I'm going to research this to see if I can prevent it from happening again. If anyone knows of a fix feel free to post it here.

Lost my game file twice, yet, for the game F1 2013. It's even worse now, when the save file is corrupted you can only press "OK" to delete it.
I don't even care anymore about my progression in career and other stuff. All the circuit settings lost is really what makes me sick

Patch was on Oct 3rd. Here is the text. Known issue:
Saves not synchronising with the Steam cloud. If you are experiencing issues with saves uploaded to Steam’s cloud, we recommend using saved games stored on your local drive/PC.

it's not working, autosave won't stay off. i turn it off, save my game manually and when i come back into the game it's autosave on and game at the point when autosave worked last time...

I just reinstalled the game from a backup after formatting my PC. It downloaded the save game using cloud sync, but the game said the file was corrupt. Before i could stop it, it deleted the files. then when I quit the game, cloud sync deleted my game from the cloud too! 40 hours of progress deleted :(

I've emailed Steam Support to see if they can restore a backup but I am not hopeful.

Only things I have done is Disable Steam Cloud Synchronization in settings and delete the ClientRegistry.blob file in the steam folder. Details in description.

that's sucks, do you know if it's something that is happening with this game?

This is only a possible solution (I can't fix your problem, I can only prevent it from happening again). When you leave F1, make sure you give it a little while to update the Steam Cloud files. This could take up to 2 minutes, depending on your internet speed

I got to EUR, autosave worked till then, now i keep playing it and it won't save. Ok, thanks, i will try doing it manually. Merry Christmas!

Yes, the same process.
I restored f1_2012.exe because he was modificated at the time of the crash, therefore he was updated and maybe he doesn't support that old restored saved profile (I had found an thread saying that).
Try restore the individual files in the remote/local folders and also the others that I told to, and find an old F1 executable on internet as you don't have previous versions of it.

Game Save Manager is a freeware product that will back up almost all games.  Cloud sync has always been buggy on Steam so for me I turned it off long ago.

When you say that you 'had to restore the game executable f1_2012.exe', you followed the same process... file -> properties -> previous versions ???

I think my solution is going to be a tad bit more complicated as I didn't have file history turned on for where my steam folder location is... :-/

how do you do manual saving if you don't mind?

victormvn

yes it worked!! =DDD

To get work I had also to restore the game executable f1_2012.exe and the files in:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps (not the subfolders)

Then I disconnected internet and went Steam offline so that Steam was unable to update the changed files, and F1 recognized my profile.

Before opening steam in online mode again, one must disable steam cloud option while it still offline, then open F1, enable steam cloud again and close the game to upload your save files.

Does anyone know where the profiles are actually stored? I need to transfer it to another PC.
