Today, we're tackling the May-June 2022 Paper 2 for problem-solving and programming. While this syllabus has some changes, practicing with this paper will still benefit you as the topics are similar.

First, follow the instructions: answer all questions, use a dark blue or black pen, avoid correction fluid, and don't use a calculator. The paper was originally out of 50 marks, with 30 for Section B and 20 for scenario-based questions.

Let's start with Section B, focusing on algorithmic problems and common programming errors. For instance, in one algorithm, the user inputs a password twice to ensure they match, and they're given three attempts. Errors in the pseudocode include incorrect logic for password length checks, mismatched passwords, and loop conditions. Correcting these involves setting proper conditions and ensuring the loop exits correctly after three attempts or a successful password match.

We also discussed validation and verification checks, like ensuring a password is at least eight characters long and checking that two inputs match. For test data, use normal and abnormal examples to test both valid and invalid inputs.

Next, we covered arrays, specifically 1D arrays, their declaration, and how to search for a value using a linear search. This involves iterating through the array and checking each element.

We then examined an algorithm for checking the temperature of hot food. The flowchart demonstrated initializing variables, inputting temperatures, and classifying them as hot, cold, or served based on conditions. The error calculation involved counting instances of hot and cold entries and computing a percentage.

To improve the algorithm's final output, adding descriptive messages for the user could clarify what the percentage represents. Also, unnecessary processes, like updating the 'serve' variable without using it, should be identified and removed.

Finally, we looked at an SQL query to select specific fields from a database table where conditions are met. This involved writing a query to display the item number and description for items where the stock level is below the reorder level and the item is single-use.

Remember, practice makes perfect. Go through each question, understand the requirements, and apply the concepts you've learned. Good luck!
