it's crazy, as someone who has lived here since I was born. the Joplin tornado was absolutely devastating and scary, I was in the path of it when it hit. but at the time I was 4 when It struck but I still remember tons of stuff that day

the hospital was not only torn to shreds on the interior, but the whole hospital itself was moved off of its foundation by half a foot. that may not sound like a lot, but to lift something that heavy for even a moment is terrifying.

I survived Joplin tornado, some friends didn't. The most terrifying thing to date. Have sever PTSD with storms now. Definitely a brand new town though. I do miss my old Joplin 💯

Just 46 months after the tornado hit Joplin, the new $465 million Mercy Hospital Joplin opened to patients on March 23, 2015.

I remember being 11 at the time, and going on a cross county road trip from upstate NY to Yellowstone, and on the day of the storm, hearing weather reports over the car radio, we stopped at a town called El dorado Springs in Missouri as not to keep driving into bad weather, which ended up being about 60 miles from Joplin. We wouldn’t have ended up going through Joplin, but if we hadn’t stopped there, I don’t know what we would’ve driven into.

They opened a new hospital called “Mercy hospital” in 2015 it’s supposed to be able to withstand tornadoes… hospitals may be tough but once the Joplin tornado comes back for round 2 I doubt that ain’t gonna do them any good I’m sorry if anyone here is from Joplin but still look what it did to basically the whole city

13 years later, still horrifying to think about.

Imagine: you and your friend went into a tunnel. When you come out of the tunnel... the entire town you lived in is decimated. You and your friend is the only survivor along with 8 others of the entire town. The town had around 1000. This is a scenarion that went into my head.
