Well said, " America is scapegoating China for its own problems."

“stealing technology”? Please give me some examples. Joint ventures are established on the basis of mutual agreement of investors on both sides. It is pure business.
Why China needs some protection in some cases? It is because is/at least was a developing economy. Some sorts of protection are acknowledged under WTO rules.

Why China didn't even have a voice in this kind of discussion?

There is nothing going on yet, the panel already cries wolves. Targeting China as a neo-colonialist or Western jealousy. Why not start negotiations with the Chinese counterpart and analyse the result before emitting such guessing unfair panel discussions. This is sad.

Removal term-limit doesn't mean "lifetime". Merkel doesn't have term-limit either.

I thought that DW was a world orientated channel...!!!
I am very disappointed with this interview with bigot's invited to bash on China and no proper Chinese intellectual invited to give a decent world like opinion on the changers occuring in our world...
With this interview, I have lost a lot of my esteem for DW...

I hope the Chinese will rule the world with wisdom and not arrogance, unlike the US.

We want infrastructure, connectivity and investments but we don't want to pay for it and we don't want any debt. Life doesn't work that way son.

A guy working in Singapore about the 'Asian view' of the west:
1. The uni-polar world is gone; a multi-polar world is here to stay
2. Europe is a museum
3. US is a joke
4. US/Nato policies are a pathetic attempt to pretend pt 1 isn't true.

Why not invite a Chinese expert? They understand better about the project.

First of all, I think the miscommunication starts with the vocabulary we use. Chinese steal tech. Yes, but lets be honest, thats how the west started out too. We dominated other countries and took their technology. That was our method before the modern world. Their method utilizes their laws, which force American companies to partner with Chinese and do nothing to protect the western counties patents . We should use another word. It isnt stealing, its a non democratic practice.
The only way the Chinese can achieve acceptance and inclusion is to change those undemocratic laws. Otherwise they will have to attempt to use force if they really want economic dominance because westerners will only take so much of that. Sadly it is greedy western industry that allowed it to get this bad, but our political leaders are beginning to pay attention. These industries have put democracy at risk by creating dependence on Chinese trade. The US fortunately did not let it go that far, but look at Australia. The US would welcome fair trade with China, but China knows we dont depend on them. You can call us a waning power all you want, but we are one of few that can stand on our feet and hold up to our principles. Otther countries sell out for short term gains and then sit around having civilized little theoretical chats about it that no one listens to .
That is the opposite of having power. So... as far as that issue goes, I think it is clear that this conversation was somewhat embellished to try and downplay America's power.
I love the Chinese, but their laws are unacceptable to us.... as far as it pertains to trade with us. That could change and I hope it does. You cant be a communist dictatorship and expect the world to bend to your whims when it comes to trade.... at least not this part of the world. When we bring an industry to any country, that industry has to be protected with laws that are enforceable. ..and protect our intellectual property. Tarriffs must be balanced That is a fair and equal agreement we would welcome. .

*If EU wants a level playing field*, better up its game and increase support for its own industries and companies, instead of blaming other governments for supporting their won.
*The FACT is* - EU has subsidised a huge number of its own industries, however it is now near bankrupt and can no longer afford to match China in subsidy, hence start complaining.

China does not have a neo-colonial agenda but India certainly does. Right after its creation in 1947 after the British Raj left India immediately continue the foreign policies (in other words expansionism) of the Raj to its neighbors. And India has a good record to show for it. India is one of the few countries I can think of post WWII that has invaded and grabbed land from every single of its neighbors. Check out this list:

1947 Annexation of Kashmir:

1949 Annexation of Manipur:

1949 Annexation of Tripura:

1951 Annexation of South Tibet:

1954 Annexation of Nagaland:

1954 Attempt annexation of Sikkim and Bhutan (Failed):

1961 Annexation of Goa:

1962 Annexation of Kalapani, Nepal:

1962 Aggression against China:

1971 Annexation of Turtuk, Pakistan:

1972 Annexation of Tin Bigha, Bangladesh:

1975 Annexation of Sikkim (the whole country):

1983 (Aborted) Attempted invasion of Mauritius:

1987 Invasion of Sri Lanka

1990 (Failed) First Attempted annexation of Bhutan:

2006 Annexation of Duars, Bhutan:

2013 Annexation of Moreh, Myanmar:

2017 Aggression against China:

2017 (Failed) Second Attempted annexation of Bhutan:

2018 (Thwarted) Attempt invasion of the Maldives
