Police: Off-duty NYPD detective shoots intruder at Long Island home

An investigation is underway in Suffolk County after police say an off-duty NYPD detective shot a man trying to break into his home.

My son and daughter in law live on the same block. Hertzel and 5th always have problems due to the drug dealer on the corner house. There has been 3 shootings alone the past year with a teen getting shot in the back. It's constantly closed off with some type of criminal problem.
