A virtually extinct Vauxhall Cavalier Mk2 SRi with just 37,394 miles and two owners.

EQUIPMENT
Laminated windscreen, Bronze tint shadeband, safety crumple zones, rigid passenger safety cell, deep front air spoiler, rear spoiler, burst-proof locks, halogen headlamps, twin rear fog lamps, electric door mirrors, Recaro rally style front seats, upholstered front seat headrests, folding rear seat, rear wash/wipe, Phillips push button stereo cassette, quartz clock, cigar lighter, centre console. SRi special equipment; 2-tone horn, Anthracite coloured mouldings, body-striping, 3-spoke sports steering wheel, carpeted load area, additional sound insulation. Dealer options; Front driving lamps, mud flaps, tailored rubber floor mats.

EXTERIOR
This incredibly rare Vauxhall Cavalier Mk2 SRi was once a common sight on UK roads but now represents a hugely nostalgic piece of sporting Vauxhall history. This early SRi on an A prefix in Hatchback guise is finished in White Gold/Anthracite (code E421 & 303), a two tone paint scheme unique to the SRi model. The paintwork presents very well with a bright polished shine, however, areas of paint rectification undertaken by the previous keeper although not unsightly are not to professional standards. All factory panels are straight apart from one with a small ding and inspection of the underside reveals the structural integrity. Factory stampings are clearly visible along the inner boot shuts. All glass, lights, badges and trim sections are in fantastic order and this totally unmolested example even retains its supplying dealer plates and rear screen sticker! Hugely sentimental to many individuals who owned examples in the 1980’s.

INTERIOR
A clean, functional and retro Vauxhall interior is sure to delight fans of the Griffin badged cars! The original Highland Check cloth trim in beige colour scheme is incredible and every inch commensurate with the cars low mileage credentials. The upholstery is clean with only very minimal wear to the sporting Recaro driver’s seat. The matching colour scheme door cards and headlining are pristine and the carpets are beautifully preserved having been protected from new by tailored Vauxhall rubber floor mats. All functions and controls operate perfectly including the Phillips push button mono stereo cassette. The dashboard and internal trim pieces are exceptional with no cracks or damage whatsoever and the rear parcel shelf is free from speaker cut outs. Prominent natural veins to the steering wheel and gearknob are an obvious trait of such a low mileage example. A true time warp interior complete with period scent, worthy of any show stand.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
This top of the range for performance SRi model features the powerful 1800i OHC four cylinder engine developing 115bhp at 5800rpm and 111.4lb/ft of torque at 4800rpm. A top speed of 114.2mph and 0-60 in 9.4 seconds affirmed this Cavalier as a real performance contender within its sector. The engine bay is clean, unaltered and displays factory plates and stickers. The five speed all syncromesh gearbox with 8.5in diameter mechanical clutch feels light, precise and tight.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Five factory standard 5½ J sports alloy wheels are hugely retro and the black infill sections remain correct. Whilst presentable, the finish to the wheels is average owing to amateur attempts at refurbishment. Branded 195/60 R14 low profile tyres are of the correct size and have plenty of tread remaining. Diagonally split dual circuit brakes with servo assistance feature 9.3in ventilated front discs and 7.9in rear drums to bring the car to a steady and assured halt.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new by Vauxhall Main Dealers Charles Warner Ltd in Lincoln on the 8th June 1984 to first keeper, Mr Francis Harsley, who kept the car for over 25 years until the second and only other keeper, Mr Armstrong, purchased the vehicle to add to his classic car collection. A mere 37,394 miles has been covered and the original service booklet contains several Vauxhall Main Dealer stamped entries up to 1997 whereby the first keeper ceased driving due to old age. This service work was carried out predominantly by the supplying dealer. A folder of previous MOT certificates and invoices cover the period with the second keeper after the car was recommissioned immediately on purchase in 2009 when the car had covered 36,429 miles. With little use since, it would be prudent to complete a full service if regular use is intended. The original Vauxhall plastic A5 wallet contains all book packs, radio guides and dealership literature. A very real and formidable Sierra contender throughout the 1980’s, the Mk2 Cavalier particularly in SRi guise has survived in far fewer numbers and now represents a very special and rare modern classic car.

MOT July 2017, HPI Clear.

This beautiful classic car is a time machine, it takes me back to November 1985. Happy Days.

I had a 1988 1.8 Lxi I loved it. Pretty quick. The most hilarious part was it had a faster top speed in 4th than 5th the E gear was so long! You could do 120mph in 4th. Change to 5th if there was any wind or an incline it would slow down!

Finally a nice 80's Vauxhall... Absolutely love these cars. It is so much harder to find an old pristine Vauxhall than an old Ford for example.. I loved the two Gte Astras you sold but they were around three years ago. Your description is spot on with this car, they are virtually extinct these days. Fantastic find.

My Dad had two mk 2's. Think both were GL 1.6's. Something about the MK2's i just love. Amazing great family cars. Both ours never let us down once and were a joy. Still my dad's favorite to this day if he's honest about it. Lets face it the MK2 gave Ford a real headache and outsold seirra for a reason. Market leader and a huge success for Vauxhall. This is a beaut of an SRI.

I left the UK in late 1987 to come to Canada. This car “A” reg, exact same colour, was the last car in had in the UK. Many good memories.

I learnt to drive in my dad's one. The steering did help build your muscles!

We had a Mk2 GLS 1.6 on a Y reg in Antique Gold. My mum said it was the most comfortable car we ever owned, and the electronic boot release saved Dad from getting out for me to put stuff in the boot picking me up from school. It had been my Uncle's company car at a Vauxhall dealership, so he left in the LCD Pioneer stereo his firm had fitted to tempt customers in upgrading the Philips unit as it had been also the demo as well. The only bug bear was it was the Auto model, which slowed things up and made it heavier to steer with no power assistance. Stunning looking saloon for the time.

I had the exact same 83/84 model in metallic blue, had the anthracite interior - much nicer than the brown. Even had the front fogs same as this one. I bought it when I was 24 and it had 60k miles on it. Sold it 3 years later with 180k on it. Loved it. As long as you kept on top of the oil and cambelt changes nothing went wrong. Bosch L Jetronic FI so simple, quick change clutches, full instruments and 5 alloy wheels. 85 face lift looked cheap in comparison.

Amazing to think a 1.8 diesel 10 year old ford focus is the same performance now.

I love those early Sri models with the Recaro seats. The 1985 spec cars lost the Recaros but they had a much nicer radiator grille.
