BMW emulating an Audi ? you sure about that? The advantages of having a wider and lower stance is not rocket science nor patented. Most enthusiasts upgrade the suspension anyways. Audi is getting old now.. the older 335 was better than the current gen s5. Now the 4 is light years ahead.

BMW 428i, most unreliable car I have owned. Vibration problem after 6 mths, even BMW couldn't fix. Car became undriveable. Got fobbed off by the dealer and BMW customer services. Complete joke.

What is "road presence" ? I don't know what that means, but the 335 is a better handling car according to a few professional reviews. I do like the S5 too and after I'm done with my 335 I may upgrade to an Audi next. To each their own.

yah... I think that's the only reason why I live life for cars like these! RS5 is more sophisticated but the M4 will push the limit yet again. The M3 that came out 2008 took cars 5 years to catch up to them. It was the benchmark!

cars, as everything in life, are "de gustibus", but I'd get an RS5 over an M4, even if I'm aware the M4 may be more funny to drive.

I will agree that the A5 looks better than the 4 Series... however, the M4 will top it the S5. I know it, they always will.

Styling more aggressive than the current 3 series coupe but still not enough. I'll wait for the M4... can't wait!

I never said anything about performance related comparisons. Everyone knows that a stock A5 doesn't compared with a 335i. Although the stock A5 does compared favorably with a 328i. And since the A5 is turbocharged, it's very easy to make it a lot faster than stock. My own A5 has an upgraded turbo running 21 psi and a 3" dual exhaust system. It's actually faster than a stock S5 the way it sits right now. But again, my comments weren't about performance, they were about looks/styling.

I'm a BMW junkie. Owned e90, F10, and now driving the E70 SAV (X5 Sport) and F02 (750Li). I would have to admit, Audi does a really good job with the S5. The S5 was a bridge performance car between the 335i and M3. You can't compare the S5 with an E92 335i. Audi answers to the M3 with latest RS5, which is quicker and better looking than an M3 (IMHO). I'm a loyal BMW fan and will always have a BMW in my garage. The M4 will give the RS5 a run for its money. I will wait patiently.

I am trying to see what BMW is trying to do here. Two thousand dollar difference between the 3-series coupe and the 4-series. I can't believe BMW would build a whole new line just to compete with Audis A5/S5. I could of sworn the BMW 3-series/M3 were doing a pretty good job. If BMW feels their models are that terrible, a simple re-design should do the trick, maybe work on their interior. Maybe someone can enlighten me?

One thing I forgot to mention--the Audi A5/S5 is in it's first generation. So to say the "current" generation is funny because it's the ONLY generation of the car. In the U.S. the A5 has been around since 2008.

Also, the A5/S5 has always had road presence that the 3-series has lacked. That's mostly due to it's wide, low stance. Now with the 4-series, BMW is finally getting that same kind of road presence that Audi has had all along with its A5/S5.

I'm absolutely sure about that. Just look at the car. Compare the lenth/width/height and notice that the new 4-series is now very close to Audi's A5. Look at the slope of the glass (front and rear) and notice that it looks very similar to the Audi A5. If you park a 3-series couple next to an Audi A5, the A5 looks much wider and lower, with a more aggressive stance. If you park a 4-series next to an A5, you'll see that they have nearly identical dimension & stance. It's about time, BMW.

The A5 is not stupid, because you cant get the A4 as a coupe. That's the reason for the A5, it is the only car which you can get as a coupe together with the A7. I think the TT doesn't count, because it is in a complete different category. The 4 series is actually "stupid" (your words), because you can even get the 3 series as a coupe. If the 4 series would look more different than the 3 series coupe, like the concept car of the 4 series, then the car would make sense.

To DerBigpr500:
>Ever heard of a term "house design signature"?
We all known about the brand "look". But the CONCEPT _did_ have the brands look, it was clearly a BMW and it looked amazing.
This PRODUCTION 4 series looks AWFUL, just terrible. Its such a big disappointment. And not many people agree with you, most people think it resembles the horrible looking 3 series. Audi cars are easily better looking at the moment.

I agree. I was shocked to see this video after the adverts. The advert/concept car looks beautiful, this barely improves on the hideous current 3 series. Audi must be laughing in their boardroom :)
Maybe an M version will look ok, I will hold judgement until then. Otherwise the only other coupe out soon worth the wait will be the IS Coupe from Lexus. Very disappointing this 4 series, I was really looking forward to it as well :( :(

Markedly different! LOL I don't think so. This is very disappointing compared to the concept and the adverts. A tradgedy. Audi and Merc both make nicer looking cars than BMW now (even though the 6 series is nice).
And where do they get these "readers" from, talking about "the package" and "its great as an owner" (how do you know, no one owns it yet- duh. Almost like they recruited BMW marketing to come and be the readers! :)

What is road presence? Seriously? Look at an A5/S5 on the road. That's road presence. A 3-series BMW doesn't have the same kind of road presence. The 4-series, however, is closer because of it's lower, wider, more swept back stance. So yeah, the 4-series took a step closer to Audi's A5/S5, which is a good thing. The 3-series just looks like a regular commuter car in comparison.

WTF BMW!!! They are actually going the wrong way with this one. The 4 series won't be a head turner as opposed to its counterpart like the Audi A5/S5 (M3/M4 for the RS5) or previous generation 3 coupe.

If their sales don't reach their objectives, I guess they will have to bank on a new facelift.

Audi wins this round for me.
