Never before has a Chinese head of state canceled a G-20 meeting - THE forum for the most important industrialized and emerging countries. Xi Jinping is now sending his Premier Li to New Delhi - this will most likely be seen as an affront by host Modi. Yet Xi and Modi certainly pursue common interests - against Western dominance. On the other hand, they are arch-rivals with leadership aspirations for the global South. In addition, China's economy is weakening, while India is catching up enormously. So we ask: "India booms, China cools: What does it mean for the rest of the world?"

Our guests:
Vendeline von Bredow (The Economist )
Felix Lee (China.Table)
Isha Bhatia (DW)

I applaud DW for not bringing Uighurs, Tibet and Taiwan in the questions. Human rights never should be part of Chinese discussion because German's interest may get hurt.

I am an Indian and I never saw any step by Modi against any religious minority with the Supreme Court protecting all equally.

Why Modi would not take credit if his policies are showing results

Indian panellist is definitely does not like Modi. The main reason we are talking about India giving rivalry to China is modi‘s leadership which propelled India to growth in all sectors. Modi has help India reach bigger heights in all sectors and this will continue for at least next 6 years hopefully longer.

I like the way the German lady is batting in favour of India, unlike our own who often try to defect.

Arunachal Pradesh and the regions are not disputed territory. The Economist rep have handled and presented the Indian situation far better and neutral than the Indian rep! How some Indians associated with western publications represent India even when facts are otherwise, is just truly disappointing.

I think India will grow much faster than China, if they get a good infrastructure running. Wich I strongly believe. They have such a jung, creative and energetic population. They don't threaten any neighboring countries, sooo these countries are willing to trade with India.
China on the other hand is way to aggressive and chasing to hard. Other countries around do not feel save. Their population will have a worse demographic shift than ours.

As a German I feel very comfortable with a peaceful, democratic country like India taking the lead in Asia. Greetings to India from Germany ❤

There are No issues with Minorities and opposition in India ..
India is democracy so opposition wins many states(division in India). and minorities votes also important.
India is very diverse and United at same time..

Let us be realistic, China is far ahead of India economically and infrastructure wise, it will be a long haul for India to catch-up. Militarily in a few areas they are one up but when it comes to military confrontation, India can give bloody nose to them for various reasons.
