It's funny to me that Trevor Noah is speaking on Slavery in America when he was born in South Africa and lived there until he moved to America in 2012. Also my ancestors came to America in the late 1800 from the Middle East so Slavery was already abolished in America when they got here. Why should me and my family need to pay for something we were never involved with?

Affirmative action was meant to be a form of reparations. To compensate with goods now based on race would harm innocent people. The government is not a money making entity. It would have to be taken from the citizenry 80% of which would have had ancestors affected by slavery themselves. Reparations only work at the time the grievance was afflicted in order to accurately compensate those harmed by it.
The problem with Trevor Noah is that he contradicts himself. He says all these things and yet he sits where he sits. Saying all these injustices are done to the black people by white people but apparently not to him. So either he is disingenuous or he is deceived.

Some of our family's Scottish and Irish ancestors were enslaved here in the Americas. Some were owned by black slave owners. You want to know what I take from this?...It's a horrible history that we need to teach our children about and instill in them to be better. We need to move forward and build a future for them that echoes a great dream by a great man; to live among one another in a place where our children play together and see each other by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin. To do anything else is a slap in the face for what he fought bled and died for. I don't want reparations. I want peace among us.

I very much appreciate sanity being told about my ancestors, this has been pissing me off for a while. My ancestors were scottish colonial missionaries that went to New Zealand and im proud of them, it was difficult, no click and collect, they built everything, they brought food with them, farms to feed everyone, we had such a beautiful and independent nation and people were feeling threatened by our multicultural evolutions, happiness and families that loved all our backgounds and families. Our british families and children moved to NZ under the guise of a better life and no one told them about the cannibals and war like tribes. Some of our own people were eaten and slaughtered and a treaty was created to protect the settlers. Theres a reason why so many people speak english and like these societies including scottish, irish, welsh because it got us out of oppressive tribes and controlling religions of those times. To be in a multicultural society you cant control people with religion or culture, they have to be allowed to create their own evolved cultures naturally and they are actively trying to control us with race, gender, abortion, religion, pronouns, sexuality, these are all choices, an independent society never controlled this. Our ancestors were appreciated except for the warring tribes and cannibals that resented our presence as we gave people independence. Now these people are creating lies and BS using money from reparations and you dont see any improvement in the lives they said they were using it for while berating white people who are poor and need help also, windows still boarded up with wood, kids being told their own colonial ancestors suppressed them, it all disgusting. The thing that confuses me with reparations is that the money comes from the government and the money that comes from the government comes from the taxes that all people pay for with their hard work. So why are the people in these countries that could have been slaves and are now in society happily paying taxes to the government, paying reparations through their taxes to a cause that affected them. Why are people who were ancestors of slaves paying their own money in taxes to reparations to an unknown situation but don't get to keep the money themselves. It's very inappropriate to take government money for reparations as this is the people's money, not slave trader money. Govt giving away money to pay off someone else for their own ancestors suffering doesnt make sense. Only slave traders should be paying, not a government but their aren't any anymore in Western Civilisation and that should be a celebration. Through these reparations and turning people against each other they are trying to take us all back to the past of tribes and warring. At this point this is long gone, no one is a slave trader as far as we know in Western civilisations and british institutions and society has been created to help everyone and we can help ourselves and this is apparent when people in power are now monetising suffering which is no different to using these people for money in the first place. As someone who had ancestors in Ireland and they were also taken as slaves, I would NEVER monetise my ancestors suffering by abusing the money given by all people in the present for the preservation of everyone in this current societies evolved values and would never create intense racism toward one group of people because of a few a$$holes in the past, its disgusting.

I do think the government owes for not providing reparations when they said they would. I also think the government owes for policies like red lining. My issue is just what you said. Where is the money coming from? My family didn't immigrate to America until after ww1 and ww2. My other issue is who gets the money? There are hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people here now whose ancestors were not slaves in America so reparations for Black decendents of American slaves are the only people who should get it. It can't be based on just being Black. It's a complicated issue for anyone who really gives it serious thought.

I tried to prove that I was Cherokee and did but found out my specific tribe held the most slaves in America and now they receive zero benefits. Most of their slaves were Native Americans….
