Shimano has finally unveiled its next generation top-level race group sets with Dura-Ace Di2 R9200 and Ultegra Di2 R8100. Both share the same fundamental technology which comprises 12-speed gearing with new cassette and chainset options, a semi-wireless system with an internal battery and new charging port on the rear mech, reshaped hoods for better ergonomics and massively improved disc brakes.

One of the best Dura Ace launch videos I've seen, and I've seen a lot of them today

This video is more informative than the one on GCN. Good job!

it looks good! I'm OK with semi-wireless - it's a perfectly viable solution. I think this is a nice evolution of Di2.

I like that the 11-28t cassette is still a straight block from 11t to 19t like the 11-speed 12-25t.

Now, all I need is Giant to publish when these groupsets will be available on their TCR range.

Somehow the 16 got lost along the way, now it's back, happy days! This also looks way better than its wireless counterpart from Sram that is too bulky for me.

Good comprehensive overview on the new group-sets. Thanks

mechanical group-set will surely be released, at the Ultegra level. This time what is more intriguing is what they’ll do with 105. Maybe 105 will be the groupset that really driives value like rival axs.

Happy with the current speeds of di2 tbh. I've fitted grx di2 in place of my dura ace shifters as I prefer the lever of the grx.

Great News!!! I hope they can trickle it down to the 105s for a more affordable but awesome group set =)

Thanks David, very informative overview. Bit disappointed they don't have a mechanical groupset, at least in a Ultegra. Older bikes with 10-speed mechanical still quite usable, but their Di2 counterpart on the other hand, not so much. Well at least they still considered the rim brakes though.

Better covered than GCN, thanks David. Now you no longer have to swap the rotors to XTR.No money to buy it still.

What about weight savings/penalties between old and new models?

looks like they dumped the asymmetric drive side crank design to make it easier for a power meter to get good readings. That should be a big improvement.

I had a thought a few moments ago. Why didn't UCI ban electronic shifting. it is after all using battery power to perform a task and therefore saving a minuscule amount of energy. If you can't ride with forearms on the bars why should you be able to have a motor shifting your gears?

Any word on cross compatibility with the older group sets? For example. I’d love to take advantage of the redesigned brakes on my current series ultegra 11 speed di2.

I noticed that one of examples of the DA rear derailleur was a direct drive 9:34 and wondered if that one was specific for the 11x34. Wondering if you noticed too.
