Glad to see you finally did an update to the OMV build! My OMV build I recently did an in-place distro upgrade from the old 2.3 to 3.1 OMV version, everything went smoothly except for a few plug-ins don't work anymore. I'm running 4x 2TB drives in SnapRAID (3 data drives, 1 dedicated to parity copied on a daily basis) and MergerFS to show all the drives as a single volume for ease of data management. Works great for my needs so far. heard you mention Nextcloud, I just set that up earlier this week! Used one of the pre-built VM images as a test, very easy to setup using the pre-configured VM's. Just using it to backup photos from my Android phone on-the-fly, and it works well for that. Now I need to figure out how to consolidate all my VM's onto one server instead of my last remaining Windows desktop in VMWare. Thinking of building a Proxmox server for all of this.

Very good tutorial on how to setup OMV. Finally something good on the whole wide youtube! I am already implementing a lot of things in my setup.

I saw you are using Calibre in OMV. May I ask how you did it? I personally followed a tut and installed it via docker, but I am having difficulties accessing my libraries on external hardrives. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I want to RAID like you are taking about. You made a back up of you nas drive with a RAID setup. My files location and spelling is always chainging and I hate having to go thrue the back up to make it look the same as my nas drive. Any pointer to get me started on geting that dune ? The only problem i have is my nas has1.9 tb of data and my back up only has space for 1.8 tb.

digging more on this issue /Guest access in SMB2 disabled by default in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update and Windows Server 2016 version 1709//
If you want to enable insecure guest access, you can configure the following Group Policy settings:

Computer configuration\administrative templates\network\Lanman Workstation
"Enable insecure guest logons"

Note By enabling insecure guest logons, this setting reduces the security of Windows clients.

Someone fairly skilled in sys admin and security recommended me to look into open media vault on a raspberry pi or cheap laptop to store high security data off my only computer in case my computer gets spyware/malware, but I’m wondering why this would be more secure than simply a second computer strictly only used for financial transactions and data storage
If my multipurpose/daily driver system gets malware due to recreational net surfing or opening malicious emails or something, then as I enter the open media vault servers address and enter passwords etc then any keylogger or screen capture malware could still just send those details to the hacker who could then access my server too?
Would having a second computer purely for work with its own OS etc be lower risk? Thanks

Apart from OMV being in the Debian family and you are more comfortable with Debian based software does OMV have any advantages over FreeNAS??
Great channel by the way I watch all your content and I've learnt a lot as a new Linux user.

hi, wouldnt the USB drive die quickly with OMV on it. I just bought a 16GB Sandisk Cruzer Fit for $30NZ which was going to go UNRAID but might go OMV. Just worried about how long it will last as not cheap

Hi Tom
Thanks for your great content. Just found your channel this week - Love it :-)
Would like to build a NAS system like you show here. But I was wondering how the speed performance is with the Raspberry Pi with USB 2.0 and no GHz ethernet?
Anny suggestions?
