Just for the record, these are mistakes that I used to make early in my career and a speaker. I also noticed these mistakes in those who are beginners as well. Of course there are many others but these are the ones that stand out the most to me 🙂

0:00 - Intro
1:02 - Lack of rehearsal
4:47 - Non words and filler words
6:04 - Talking to softly
8:53 - Talking too fast
10:59 - Forgetting to make eye contact
12:56 - Overloading your slides with content

If you are new to public speaking or presenting - look out for the 7 common mistakes above. If you take the time to watch your videos back, you'll be able to build more self awareness and you'll be able to check your delivery against the list of 7 things above.

Improving our communication skills is one of the most powerful things we can do, think about all the different areas of your life where you rely on your communication skills? This is why I will always say that..
"This is the tide that lifts all boats."
Improve this one skill and watch your WHOLE life improve.

Lessons :
1. Rehearse as you are presenting
2. No filler words
3. Speaking with confidence with stronger level of volume
4. Speaking at a pace not too fast (Rehearsal)
5. Making eye contact with audience
6. Keep the slides extremely simple

I am a director of sales and I tell my team and extended pitch team to rehearse, rehearse and rehearse more. I agree with everything you said. Public speaking is definitely a learned art.

I have a lot of issue with eye contact and i’ve made a conscious effort to look at others when speaking. Thanks for the tips!

Great stuff. 👏🏻👏🏻
There are another two common mistakes I’ve noticed when we speak:
1. Repetition - some talk about the same thing over and over again

2. Poor time management: most of the time exceeding the allotted time

Your first one about not rehearsing enough is spot on! That has the biggest impact on everything else. Great video!

Thank you so much. Ever since I found you a few days ago, I can’t seem to get enough of your content. I am a senior who teaches dance at our local senior center. I have learned so much from this video that I can apply towards my teaching. I will definitely avail myself of your free video. Thank you again!

This is excellent. My voice speed is what I need to work on. I get so excited when I talk to people or present about home loans, that I tend to speed up.

Great tip on rehearsing, I don't do it and it shows... curious how much better I can be if I do!! Will definitely try this! 🙏🏼

Again I agree to almost everything presented here. Later on you say people should know what they want to say inside out and that's what I agree on. The focus on brutal rehearsal is good for someone (like you) who has to deliver spot on in a tight timeframe. If you know WHAT to say you can adjust HOW you say it by looking at an feeling the audience. It lets you speak freely and be really in that moment. That's the moment when you transit from someone who imitates someone competent to someone who actually is. So MY version of your otherwise amazing advice would be to spend that time thinking about the key points that have to come across rather than repeating the show endlessly. But as said before, that depends on the kind of delivery you have to perform. Thank you again for your video :)

Vingh....you nailed it about rehearsal and it was a cinch for me at a recent presentation I delivered. Got an applause because I was smooth and it was not something I was use to. So guys rehearsal does it.

As always, fantastic ❤

And I would also add:
~ fidgeting (touching hair, necklace, leg shaking, rocking back and forth, playing with a pen/bottle, etc).
~ gesticulating too much or too little (too much is distracting. Too little doesn’t match the narrative or it’s very bland).
