If you go to the highest point of the mountain in the snowy area then you will find the old man who will give you a worm coat so that you can walk around in the cold without a torch.

If you get a perfect shield on a guardian's laser, it reflects the beam back at them. Stationary, broken guardians only take one hit to kill and mobile, fully functional guardians take at least three. You know when to shield bash when you see their eye glow blue right before they actually fire the laser. It's a great way to farm guardians.

If you get a shield, you can use it to deflect enemy attacks. Including... THE GUARDIANS LASER. THAT'S RIGHT, THE GUARDIANS LASER. This is an effective way of dealing with guardians early in the game, but they can also be hurt by stronger weapons or being charged by a horse you're riding.
