I'm at chapter 49 and I just had to take a break to see if there is anyone out there who dislikes this book too. Glad I found this video! (I need to investigate what the beef is with Tasmyn Muir though...!) Anyway: Something that grinds my gears about this book is how Lawrence keeps dropping off-page info about Livira. "Btw she's been learning how to jump between bookcases! Btw she's been exploring the city in her own time! Oh and she totally has girl nights with her friends! AND she's been learning the language of the Sabbers with Yuut!" Like, for as good Lawrence is at setting up plot points about the library itself, he really doesn't care about making the growth of the characters authentic. Especially when the book is littered with time skips on Livira's end. That stuff could easily had been a paragraph whenever another 5 years passed.

For me Livvera saved this story. But it is wayyyy too long. But also I fear I have to reread this to get to book 2 🙈

I'm so glad that you mentioned the misogyny in Prince of Thorns. I know I won't be reading that now. I certainly will give The Book That Wouldn't Burn a try and then returning to this video.
