Hurricane Helene unleashes fury on Mexico submerging Cancun resorts in torrential rain: ‘Beach gone’

Unsurvivable’ storm to wreak havoc on Florida with 20-foot storm surge, 115 mph winds

Helene could become a category 4 storm.

Hurricane Helene, intensifying from a tropical storm, struck Mexico’s coastal state of Quintana Roo on Wednesday, bringing heavy rain and strong winds to Cancun and surrounding areas.

As the Category 1 hurricane formed Wednesday morning, it unleashed its fury in the Caribbean as its destructive eye is now set on the Florida coast with a life-threatening landfall expected on Thursday.

The National Hurricane Center said that the storm would bring “life-threatening storm surge, damaging winds and flooding rains” as it heads toward the U.S. Gulf Coast.

Currently, Helene is lashing western Cuba and the Yucatan Peninsula.

Along the storm’s path is Cancun, home to some of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico.

Lightning was seen in the night sky above Merida, in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, early on Wednesday as the intensifying Helene passed along the country’s Gulf Coast.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis issued a state of emergency in almost every county in the state.

Hurricane Helene has now reached sustained winds of up to 105 mph and is moving in a NNE direction at 14 miles per hour, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The storm is located about 250 miles southeast of Tampa.

The NHC warned inundation from powerful Hurricane Helene could reach as high as 20 feet along Florida’s Big Bend coast, bringing with it catastrophic and deadly conditions.

The storm, expected to make landfall this evening, is forecast to bring ‘life-threatening’ winds to Northern Florida and Southern Georgia.

Forecasts also indicate a potential for flash-flooding across Appalachia, northern Florida, and the southeastern United States.
