Hurricane "Helen," strengthened from a tropical storm, struck the coastal Mexican state of Quintana Roo.
The hurricane brought heavy rains and strong winds to Cancun and surrounding areas.
Classified as a Category 1 storm, it formed on Wednesday morning and unleashed its fury in the Caribbean Sea.
Its destructive eye is now moving toward Florida's coastline, with increasing intensity as it approaches.
A dangerous, life-threatening landfall is expected later today, causing widespread concern among residents.
The National Hurricane Center warned of "life-threatening storm surges, destructive winds, and heavy rainfall."
Residents in affected areas are urged to take immediate precautions.
