I (a staunch conservative) started dating a woman (a die hard liberal) while I was in my late 20s and working and she was in her early 20s and finishing grad school.

All it took to turn her into a conservative was getting that first paycheck and seeing all those taxes.

In the past I would have said that it should be ok to marry blue/ red as long as there was mutual respect… but it’s just so divided now, with leftists increasingly deranged over gender topics and a variety of other issues with a ‘prescribed party orthodoxy’, that I’d now say: DON’T DO IT. If you can respect the views of someone you disagree with, you can be friends. If you can be friends with someone you disagree with it can be more. It's not the differing views that kill romance across political lines it's in tolerance.

Okay but where on earth are all the conservative women? I am a college student in an extremely left wing university in one of the most left wing cities in New Zealand. I don't think I've ever met a conservative woman around my age. I'm also not religious, although I am interested in religion and I am looking into different religions to see if one of them might be true.

Im kind of split on some policies but very mich a traditionalist who wants a traditional family. Basically a moderate Republican. No you shouldnt date someone who doesnt align with your deeply held goals and values. And I'd definitely prefer a conservative who is much more right of center than me over a liberal any day.
